SINGAPORE, July 28, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Ethicon*, part of Johnson & Johnson Medical Devices Companies**, has convened orthopaedic experts and key opinion leaders from around the world to host the Asia Pacific #OrthopaedicMasters Series. This series of virtual events will run over several months with the goal of bringing continued learning opportunities to orthopaedic surgeons, with a focus on the importance of soft tissue management.

The #OrthopaedicsMasters series – which kicked-off on Thursday, 16 July 2020 and will bring together more than 20 experts from the U.S., Canada, China, Japan, Korea, Australia, and India, among others – will provide the latest thinking on infection prevention guidelines, technologies, and methodologies to help improve patient outcomes, patient experiences, and hospital efficiencies.

The Masters' series is launching at a time in history where hospital efficiency and improved patient outcomes are essential. Hospital systems around the world have experienced extensive backlogs for elective surgeries due to COVID-19. As a result, patients whose quality of life could significantly improve with elective surgeries have had to wait out the pandemic. Now, as patients begin to schedule their much-needed surgeries, hospitals and surgeons are reviewing current concepts and ways the medical community can address the challenges and prevent further spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Hundreds of healthcare professionals from across the globe attended the premiere virtual event, a live discussion with seven experts on the "new normal" in elective orthopaedic surgery and how hospitals are adopting novel protocols published by the International Consensus Group (ICM). The level of engagement and participation by healthcare professionals from across APAC and around the globe affirms both a need and demand for hearing experts share their knowledge and experience in educational events of this nature.

Last week Ethicon held a virtual event with Professor Pascal-Andre Vendittoli of Canada on the importance of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) in joint surgeries. Next week, Professors Michael A. Mont of New York and Hua Tian of Beijing will lead an engaging discussion on the use of new technologies for wound management following hip and knee arthroplasty.

Dr Mont, Vice President Strategic Initiatives, Orthopaedic Surgery, Northwell Health, New York and Past Chair of Orthopaedics, Cleveland Clinic said, "in the current environment where face-to-face education is almost impossible, events of this type are critical in ensuring we continue to share ideas and learn from each other, and the focus on wound closure and telemedicine is particularly relevant."

Ethicon continues to support orthopaedic practitioners in their lifelong learning by creating spaces to ensure that the most up-to-date information is accessible. Participants can learn more about and register for the Asia Pacific  #OrthopaedicsMasters Series by referring to the event schedule. We encourage you to engage in the conversation by using the #OrthopaedicMasters hashtag on social media.
