Mrs Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Chief Executive of the HKSAR, Mr Chen Dong, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR, and Mr Daryl Ng, Chairman of the Greater Bay Area Homeland Youth Community Foundation, together with Council Committee members, attended the Council Committee Luncheon hosted by the Foundation on 9 September.

With staunch support from the Greater Bay Area Homeland Development Fund and business leaders, the committed donation to the Foundation has exceeded HK$100 million. The Council Committee comprises over 90 distinguished community leaders. Solid progress has been made towards administration and youth work, including the opening of its office located in the China Resources Building in March 2019 and the first Council Committee meeting held in May.

The Foundation aims to provide long-term support to youth groups through concerted efforts from all sectors. It has proactively taken up liaison work with various youth organisations and has confirmed a number of partnership initiatives, including the Innovating Hong Kong -- Global Talent Carnival which provides employment opportunities to youngsters, patronage of The Icon Music Assembly aiming to foster cultural exchange and instil positivity in town, and the joint publication of a guidebook with the Hong Kong X Foundation assisting youngsters to look for opportunities and establish start-ups in the Greater Bay Area.

"This year, as we witness the announcement of the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, we also celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. The Foundation is honoured to be part of the development of the Greater Bay Area, and re-affirms its commitment to supporting the country and promoting a better understanding of the Greater Bay Area among young people," remarked Mr Daryl Ng as he gave an update on the work of the Foundation at the luncheon.

"The Greater Bay Area development will bring huge opportunities for Hong Kong with cities in this region complementing each other. This will support Hong Kong industries to grow further, promoting re-industrialisation and supporting Hong Kong's development into an international innovation hub. We look forward to working together to unleash the unique advantages of 'one country, two systems' and realising our vision of 'For Our Youth, For Our Future'."

Going forward, the Foundation will continue to actively connect with different youth organisations for collaboration. Key upcoming projects include the establishment of the Greater Bay Area Youth Project Fund to support youth groups and organisations on appropriate projects, exploring new opportunities to provide support for start-ups which have been given subsidies from the Youth Development Fund of the Home Affairs Bureau, setting up youth exchange programmes to encourage young people to experience and better understand the current scene and prospects of the Greater Bay Area, and identifying success stories of the GBA in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau.

With 'For Our Youth, For Our Future' as its mission, the Foundation focuses on facilitating learning, exchanges, internships, employment and entrepreneurship in the Greater Bay Area, providing young people with a platform from which to develop personally and professionally.
