SEOUL, South Korea, Sept. 18, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The Hanwoo Board participated in Restaurant & Bar Hong Kong 2018 (RBHK) held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) September 4 - 6, attracting great responses from local buyers and turning on a green light for increasing exports of Hanwoo (Korean beef) in the future.
RBHK is one of the biggest restaurant and bar fairs in the Asia Pacific region and marks its 15th anniversary this year. The B2B event attracts more than 30,000 buyers and 300 companies every year. The Hanwoo Board participated this year in support of the promotional activities of local Hanwoo importers in Hong Kong and to raise awareness of Hanwoo among local food buyers.
The Hanwoo Board first participated in the Chef Master Class in which famous chefs demonstrated some Hong Kong cuisine using Hanwoo sirloin. During the show, Michael Chung, a famous chef working at Wing's Private Kitchen restaurant in Tsim Sha Tsui, cooked Hanwoo cube steak. During the Tea Pairing session, which introduced cuisine that matches well with tea, a famous tea sommelier paired smoked Hanwoo sirloin roll with a 20-year-old pu'er tea.
The Hanwoo Board also hosted Hanwoo tasting sessions for buyers during the entire three days of the fair. Buyers who participated in the tasting expressed great interest in Hanwoo, making statements such as "Hanwoo is flavorful and juicy," and "I'm impressed that it is soft and chewy unlike other beef." Also, as part of the promotion, the Hanwoo Board presented every visitor with a Hanwoo character piggy bank and Hanwoo jerky.
Kyung-Cheon Min, the Board's chairperson, stated, "We participated in this fair to understand trends in the Hong Kong food market, the status of local Hanwoo marketing, and buyer interest in Hanwoo. This introduction of Hanwoo to local buyers is expected to boost awareness among Hong Kong consumers and increase purchases in the future. We look to expand exports by increasing our support for local buyers' marketing activities and seek ways to promote export all over Asia."
The Hanwoo Board will host a variety of other events to promote Hanwoo to Hong Kong consumers in October, the Month of Korean Culture. It will also participate in the Hanwoo Festival which will be held October 12 - 14 in Hong Kong, and take part in the K Food Fair on the Avenue of Stars in Tsim Sha Tsui on October 17 - 19.
