IGEM 2019 Abuzz with Strategic Partnerships

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, Oct. 10, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Strengthening its position as the region's most successful green technology, business and innovation platform, the 10th International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition & Conference Malaysia (IGEM) 2019 today witnessed a total of 8 Memorandum of Understanding's (MoUs) aiming to intensify economic activity and sustainable solutions being signed on its first day.

IGEM 2019's co-organiser, Malaysian Green Technology Corporation (GreenTech Malaysia), an agency under the Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment & Climate Change (MESTECC), and Shell Malaysia Limited inked a MoU to consolidate efforts in streamlining best practices, offering scenario analysis for Malaysia's net zero emission and raising climate change awareness.

Witnessing the signing ceremonies, the Minister of MESTECC, Yang Berhormat Puan Yeo Bee Yin said, "IGEM has a longstanding track record of converging innovators and investors to establish partnerships that not only benefit the industry but also offer new employment opportunities, new sustainable products and services as well as new market inroads."

"The MoUs witnessed today signify further cooperation between the government and green businesses that will reinforce the existing green strategies in Malaysia and offer practical solutions to address climate issues," she added.

In the day ahead, IGEM 2019 will witness an MoU between GreenTech Malaysia and CDP Worldwide (UK) in support of the Low Carbon Cities 2030 Challenge. The collaboration includes a joint research into the alignment and measurement of carbon emissions as well as providing substantive reports of sustainable practices across Malaysian cities.

GreenTech Malaysia sealed an agreement with the Professional Bodies Malaysia, a total of 8 organisations, to incorporate low carbon design strategies in professional practice while working with local authorities to identify and designate low carbon zones within the city.

Among other MoUs signed were those between the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA Malaysia) with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), to enhance the scope of energy management support in UTM's biogas, biomass and energy management research facilities. The MoU will enable both parties to exchange information in the areas of services and technologies that have proven to benefit Malaysia's renewable energy industries.

Chief Executive Officer of SEDA, Dr V. Sanjayan said, "We are pleased to be a part of this year's IGEM as well as sharing a platform with numerous businesses in working to champion green energy growth in Malaysia. As the custodian in charge of expanding Malaysia's renewable energy, SEDA Malaysia is constantly looking to team up with industry leaders from various sectors to develop innovative and engaging initiatives that will spur adoption and market growth."

IGEM 2019, is set to drive the region's green economy, with ambitious targets to generate RM2.8 billion in business leads and attract more than 35,000 visitors, featuring over 300 booths from 35 countries.
