HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam, May 7, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- The COVID-19 outbreak has hit hard on the Nonprofit community in Vietnam, posing numerous challenges on the organizations' ability to survive and carry on their mission according to 42 local nonprofit organizations answered our survey. More than 400 NPO partners in LIN's network has also expressed concerns over the awaiting organizational and operational challenges soon. Therefore, LIN has taken action to mobilize the local resources to create this COVID-19 Response Community Fund to support those NPOs in need, to ensure local nonprofit organizations can continue to thrive and serve their beneficiaries, many are of the most marginalized population in Vietnam.
Due to the nationwide social distancing regulations and COVID-19's overall impact on the economy, many local nonprofits have been forced to cancel or postpone their planned fundraising and program activities for 2020. The delayed activities cause many local nonprofits to face financial and operational instability. In April, LIN surveyed our local NPO partners and learned that at least 30 nonprofits in our network will face substantial operational issues over the next six months.
COVID-19 Response Community Fund aims to provide support to local NPOs in need to survive and carry on the mission through this global crisis. Our fundraising goal is 1.6 billion VND (~$68,000) to support 30 nonprofits with an estimated fund of 50 million VND per NPO in need. These local nonprofit organizations have demonstrated a significant need to sustain operation for the remainder of 2020. NPOs who seek funding will submit a project proposal outlining funding usage and impact. Once selected, funding will directly support individual beneficiaries of our NPO partners, including people whose jobs have been impacted due to COVID-19, paying salaries to teachers from disadvantaged youth development programs, providing necessary training for communities to cope with the pandemic, and providing a space to work in 6 months. LIN will conduct a survey at six-month post-funding distribution to evaluate the Community Fund's impact.
Local nonprofits, with limited resources, typically operate under a very thin funding reserve. This urgent funding will ensure organization with the direst need can survive over the next three to 6 months, and continue to serve their beneficiaries, provide much-needed support to its respective communities, ultimately leading to a positive ripple effect of stabilizing hundreds of households. Preventing a major disruption to services in the most vulnerable communities in Vietnam will ensure a stronger recovery as communities recover from the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.
