HONG KONG, June 5, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- OP Investment Management ("OPIM"), Asia's leading hedge fund platform is partnering with Brazos Capital Management to launch Brazos Fund SP, a Cayman-domiciled fund for professional investors only.
The Fund is managed by Mr. Jia Zhai, who is the director of Brazos Capital Management with over 10 years of energy and resources experience in both financial and technical capacities. Before managing the Fund, Mr. Zhai served as the Executive Director and Head of Asia Oil and Gas at Morgan Stanley.
Jia Zhai, a petroleum engineer by training, will leverage his extensive knowledge and experiences in the natural resources space to actively manage the global long-short equities strategy. The investment approach includes a proprietary combination of top-down industry research and bottom-up individual stock-picking to identify opportunities that exhibit significant valuation discrepancies between current market prices and intrinsic values.
"With a macroeconomic backdrop characterized by inflationary, rate-rising and late-cycle environments, commodities and resources equities are well positioned to outperform most other asset classes going into 2H2018 and beyond," Jia remarked. "In addition, resources sector is still very much underappreciated and underweighted by Asian investors for a variety of reasons and we want to use our industry expertise to help our clients get access to high-quality global resources opportunities otherwise unavailable in Hong Kong or other Asian markets. We believe we are well positioned to help our clients achieve their investment objectives through both absolute return and sector diversification."
"Jia's reputation precedes him. He has been on the frontline of deal-making in the resources sector through multiple industry cycles. Resources is not an easy sector for generalists and investors will appreciate accessing this space through a focused sector strategy and an industry expert. The team is thrilled to be partnering with new talent." Alvin Fan, Chief Executive Officer of OP Investment Management added.
Mr. Zhai grew up in a coal miner's family in China. He received his Master of Petroleum Engineering degree (with a focus on reservoir engineering) from Texas A&M University and Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Mathematics from Yale University. He is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).
