Bukit Gasing hiking trails, a tropical forest reserve in Selangor, Malaysia, was chosen for the campaign due to the location's history of litter accumulation. The statistics published by OECD in 2022 stated that plastics account for 3.4% of global greenhouse gas emission, while only 9% of plastic waste is recycled and 22% is mismanaged globally. This fueled Hager Malaysia's to act towards combating climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emission by cleaning-up the hiking trails and forest. Such action is embedded in Hager Malaysia's E3 (Ethics, Employees, Environment) integrated sustainability strategy DNA.
"Embracing the harmony between progress and preservation, Hager Malaysia proudly intertwines environmental stewardship within our very business fabric. With unwavering dedication, this initiative stands as a testament to our resolute commitment to achieving the ambitious Hager's Group Project 2030 target. Aligned seamlessly with Hager's visionary pursuit to shape the forthcoming landscape of the electrical realm, we illuminate a sustainable path, where each operation resonates with the heartbeat of our planet.", said Joyce, MD of Hager Malaysia.
A lifelong Commitment to the Planet
In addition to the ZERO Trash Campaign, Hager Malaysia has invested in an environmentally friendly approach to ensure the longevity and quality of its products. They have introduced more sustainable solutions in production and distribution, putting the entire process, from sourcing materials to end-of-product-life, under intense scrutiny to minimize its environmental impact, including C02 emissions.
This clean-up campaign is deemed as one of the crucial strategies in contributing to lessening the dangerous materials harmful to the ecosystem. Joyce added, "It is just one piece of the puzzle. We are committed to a multi-pronged strategy by reducing virgin plastic usage at the source, designing more eco-friendly products and packaging, and optimizing our factories with low carbon development. At Hager Malaysia, we are devoted to wildlife safety and crafting sustainable solutions through pioneering recycling for a real change."
Hager Group has supported the United Nations' Global Compact since 2007 and aligned with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. In the upcoming quarter, Hager Malaysia will also kick off other sustainable campaigns, such as the Feed the Poor Campaign, aimed at creating ZERO hunger communities by supporting orphanages in Semenyih.
