More than 15,000 team members have completed training within first three months of its launch
MACAO, Oct. 8, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- With the goal of ensuring a respectful and equitable workplace for all team members, Sands China Ltd. launched a new training on recognising and preventing discrimination and harassment in the workplace in July, targeting to train all of the company's more than 28,000 team members by the end of the year.
More than 15,000 Sands China team members have already completed the training within the first three months of its launch. The company-wide effort requires 150 departmental trainers to be dedicated to delivering training sessions, which are still ongoing.
"Establishing and maintaining a positive workplace is essential for any business, and our company believes in providing an inclusive environment where discrimination and harassment are not tolerated, and respect and consideration are the norm," said Dr. Wilfred Wong, president of Sands China Ltd. "With our diversity of team members, we strive to make Sands China a company where we value and respect individual cultural differences, and give equal opportunities for career advancement to all of our more than 28,000 team members."
The company's formal policy for preventing discrimination and sexual harassment was established in July. It seeks to promote a culture of respect and equity, and has a no tolerance policy on any type of harassment or discrimination. The policy further ensures that appropriate action is taken in cases where accusations of harassment or discrimination are made by or against team members.
"Equality is a core value that must never be compromised," said one team member who completed the training. "This training was very enriching and inspiring, and has helped me develop an even deeper understanding of what it means to treat others with respect and dignity."
A town hall event in July helped the company's management team understand their role of supporting the mass training plan by ensuring that all team members understand the policy and are aware of their role in building a respectful and equitable workplace.
Sands China views its team members as its greatest asset, and its training campaign to build a respectful and equitable workplace is part of the company's ongoing efforts to foster a positive and supportive work environment for its team members. Those efforts include a comprehensive benefits package with elements to encourage work-life balance, an occupational health and safety programme for a safer and healthier work environment, and a recently launched myFITNESS campaign to promote team member well-being by encouraging a holistic approach to health and wellness.
