Every year the Awards pay tribute to the most amazing people and endeavours. A lot of the great work on show goes on quietly with philanthropy at the core - making people's lives better, improving our environment, and putting Melbourne on the world stage.

The headline award -- Melburnian of the Year -- was presented to SecondBite founders, Simone and Ian Carson, who started their enterprise in 2005. They redistribute food that would otherwise be wasted - 27 million meals a year - to people in need, completely free of charge. Their contribution and those of so many other organisations at the Awards are an inspiration.

Award entries this year included:

  • A streetwear clothing social enterprise Homie which helps homeless young people get into the workforce;
  • The Movember Foundation, which is the only international program addressing this area of men's health;
  • Dialogue in the Dark and Dans Le Noir -- two offerings where participants get to experience being blind;
  • The Water Well Project helping migrants and communities from refugee backgrounds to receive health education;
  • Zoos Victoria highlighting the damage balloons cause to wildlife, and sprinkling the Town Hall audience with their alternative -- bubbles;
  • The Club Melbourne Ambassador Program, help Melbourne secure major events bringing visitors and hundreds of million dollars into the city every year, and with that the need for language support provided by businesses like Chin Communications.

Chin Communications was the Winner of the Multiculturalism Award -- Corporation for its work in foreign language translation and especially in Chinese Translation projects which help Melbourne reach out to its communities and pursue global opportunities. "It is one of the most trusted Chinese communication specialists... at the table for many significant events in the China space," read the citation.

"It is great to be in an event with inspirational and passionate people. Together we are making Melbourne even greater," Chin Communications stated.
