SURABAYA, Indonesia, July 23, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- The team at the 5-stars, The Westin Surabaya, pulled together to donate meals for healthcare workers and COVID-19 patients in Asrama Haji Surabaya, one of the city's largest coronavirus' treatment centers. The food and drinks were delivered on July 19, in partnership with the Surabaya government's COVID-19 volunteer association.

These donations, which continue The Westin Surabaya's commitment to supporting people and communities where it operates, included 150 food and drink packages sourced directly from the hotel's botanical and chef garden, were distributed following a nationwide lockdown.

"We think it's important to take care of healthcare personnel in Surabaya who risk their lives to save others during this pandemic," said Alamsyah Jo, Complex General Manager of The Westin Surabaya & Four Points by Sheraton Surabaya Pakuwon Indah.

"Our mission was to provide nutrient-rich meals for those on the frontline and in the treatment center, completely free of charge. All of the thoughtfully packaged meals were chef-made from the hotel's edible gardens," added Jo.

The current initiative is part of The Westin Surabaya's ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs in the wake of the pandemic. Next, a monthly donation of the garden's harvest is prepared for the most impacted communities, including delivery service drivers and orphanages.

These donations will support medical and other related teams caring for patients who are recovering from the virus in Surabaya, along with people in local communities impacted by COVID-19.

The hotel also provides special services for guests during the lockdown: Drive-Thru "Eat Well To Go" and Drive-In Dine, which allow guests to take away various healthy menu choices, with a "Buy 2 Get 3" promo and discount of up to 50% at 6 pm.

With these new dining programs, people are also invited to contribute and give back to the community. With the The Westin Surabaya's Welcome Lobby area opening from 10 am to 7 pm, they can order any food options from the Drive-Thru and Drive-In Dine, and 10% of the profit goes straight back to the city's COVID19 volunteer association to help support healthcare workers, COVID-19 patients, and communities impacted by the pandemic.

The Westin Surabaya Edible Garden Project

The Westin Surabaya owns two gardens at the premise. The high-end hotel's Botanical Garden sits at Pakuwon Golf and Family Club, totaling a green area of 375m2, and is used to host guests' gardening activities. The Chef's Garden provides fresh produce for a garden-to-table dining experience for The Westin Surabaya's guests and also our associates

The variety of plants in the botanical garden and chef garden includes eggplant, bok choy, lettuce, cucumber, tomato, pumpkin, turmeric, ginger, basil, sweet potatoes, and many more.
