SEOUL, South Korea, Feb. 26, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- On February 21, 2019, Samsung Display announced significant advances in OLED panel technology, which emit far less blue light than existing mobile device displays, and will be used in the latest Samsung Galaxy S10 series phones. Its outstanding performance AM OLED display has obtained Eye Comfort certification from TUV Rheinland Group.

By sharply lowering the percentage of blue light emanating from smartphone OLED panels from 12 percent to only seven percent, Samsung Display has attained a threshold never before reached in the marketplace. Moreover, the new OLED display emits 61 percent less blue light than most of today's conventional LCD displays in smartphones.

"Samsung Display will now be able to provide the most consumer-friendly environment for smartphone usage in the world, which will benefit the many millions of consumers spending ever more time using their smartphones," said Jeeho Baek, Vice President and head of the Mobile Display Sales & Marketing Team at Samsung Display Company.

Not only does the new technology make smartphones safer to use, but it also maintains a very high color range, contrary to what might be expected with such a significant reduction in blue-light emission. In fact, Samsung Display announced that it has been able to keep a DCI-P3 level of precision color imaging without reducing the number of visible colors. DCI-P3 is the optimal color standard for video play.

Beginning later this year, the technology will be capable of adaptation for small to medium-sized OLED displays, including those used in notebooks. In fact, stated Samsung Display, it has already earned a second Eye Comfort certification from TUV Rheinland this month, by substantially reducing blue-light emissions emanating from a 15.6-inch OLED notebook display, to as little as eight percent.

"Through cooperation with Samsung Display, we have successfully extended TUV Rheinland eye comfort certification from the end product to the display panel, which will lead the display industry to enhance blue light management and overall visual performance," stated Jay Yang, Vice President, Greater China Electrical, TUV Rheinland.
