HONG KONG, Jan. 9, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- TUV Rheinland Hong Kong will launch the inspection, examination and testing services for kiddie rides in Hong Kong in accordance with the Amusement Rides (Safety) Ordinance (Cap 449) and the Amusement Rides (Safety) (Operation and Maintenance) Regulation (Cap 449B). Vincent SUN Xin-Shi, Section Manager of Industrial Service registered as the qualified person approved by Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD). The owners of a kiddie ride are required to arrange a qualified person approved by EMSD to examine the kiddie ride once every six months. TUV Rheinland Hong Kong will provide ride examination report certified for applying the permit.
Kiddie rides are popular in the shopping malls and indoor playgrounds. They are intended for use by children under 12 years old. Parents should pay attention to their kids when they are playing the kiddie ride and instill safety precautions such as keeping hands and feet inside the ride at all times, and staying seated. In order to ensure the kiddie ride is well functioning, parents should follow the age and weight restriction of the kiddie ride.
In the past April, a Chinese toddler was electrocuted by a kiddie ride in Fujian, China. The ride had an exposed cable within reach of the child. The boy touched it and the electricity knocked him unconscious instantly. There have also been reports in China about children whose fingers were severed by the rides. Thus, parents should oversee the danger of the kiddie ride.
TUV Rheinland provides professional assistance for ride manufacturers and operators with all necessary inspections and assessments to help them achieve maximum safety. We also actively work toward accident prevention to help operators improve consumer confidence in the quality and safety of the indoor playground and equipment as well as lower operating risks and liabilities.
