The partnership covers 11 countries including Australia, China, Indonesia and Singapore. USG Boral and Habitat will support the construction and restoration of homes as part of Habitat's Impact Asia campaign, an initiative that aims to help 15 million people in the Asia-Pacific region secure decent shelter, and engage a further 10 million as volunteers, advocates and supporters by 2020. For example, in Cheonan, South Korea last year, USG Boral constructed 24 homes for low-income newlywed couples who are unable to afford a house.

From now through to 2020, USG Boral will provide cash and in-kind donation of premium building materials, including their flagship products, SHEETROCK® Plasterboards and DUROCK® Cement Boards, to Habitat. This underscores USG Boral's commitment to improving the lives of the communities, especially the low-income and less privileged, by addressing their housing needs. As a further commitment, USG Boral has also appointed a Community Involvement Championship leader within each market to oversee and spearhead volunteering projects.

"A home is an integral part of life that provides shelter, safety and security. This partnership with Habitat is close to our hearts as we draw on our expertise and experience to build strong and stable houses," said Frederic de Rougemont, CEO, USG Boral. "We're excited to announce this long-term engagement and hope that the sustained outreach can help create a meaningful impact on the communities we are also part of."

To advance efforts in ensuring a more concerted CSR agenda, USG Boral will also be conducting training workshops for skilled and unskilled workers in Cambodia to impart essential skills on the installation of building materials such as gypsum walls and panels. These efforts aim to help contractors with skill up-tooling and eventually increasing their sources of income.

Rick Hathaway, Asia-Pacific Vice President, Habitat for Humanity International, shared: "We are delighted to strengthen our partnership with USG Boral, a recognised global manufacturer and supplier of building products. For the past 18 years, USG Boral has been actively involved in our disaster response and risk reduction programs by providing construction materials and volunteers on build days. Thanks to their support, more families in Asia have a decent place to call home."

USG Boral has been working closely with Habitat across a variety of projects in the region including donating plasterboards to rebuild homes in affected provinces during Typhoon Haiyan in Philippines.

Besides Habitat, USG Boral has also worked with multiple industry stakeholders including partnering with EPIC Homes to provide housing aid for Orang Asli villagers in Malaysia and the Department of Skill Development in Thailand to conduct skill upgrading workshops for contractors.
