Boosting Pandemic Prevention and Control with Optical Technologies

The control of diseases, especially infectious diseases, has been an important topic in human's scientific research for hundreds of years. While the modern bacteriology research has brought indelible contribution for infectious diseases conquest. Back in the 19th century, Robert Koch, winner of the 1905 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, already studied infectious pathogens with a ZEISS microscope and proposed the famous Koch's postulates, which are still used as an important theory today in looking for viruses' pathogen. For nearly two centuries, ZEISS has never stopped helping mankind control epidemics with its optical technologies. During the COVID-19 pandemic, ZEISS' products like ZEISS Celldiscoverer 7 (a fully integrated high-end automated live cell imaging system) were used in virus studying and vaccines developing. All these products will be exhibited at this year's CIIE.

Meanwhile, ZEISS has been concerned about the safety of medical workers and has donated numerous protective products such as the slit lamp breath shields to use with ophthalmic equipment and infection proof cover for surgical equipment like ZEISS KINEVO 900. Meanwhile, ZEISS FORUM (a DICOM- based patient management system) has made contributions in assisting ophthalmologists with remote diagnosis during the COVID-19. In addition, ZEISS service provided customers with comprehensive remote maintenance services through professional remote system, escorting the front-line medical workers during the epidemic.
