Performance in overseas and Chinese markets continued to excel
HONG KONG, Feb. 10 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- TCL Communication Technology Holdings Limited ("TCL Communication" or the "Company", together with its subsidiaries referred to as the "Group"; HKSE: 02618) today announced the Group's unaudited handsets and accessories shipment data for January 2010.
The Group's total shipments of handsets and accessories in January reached 2,076,407 units, a remarkable increase of 180% over the same period of 2009. Shipments to overseas markets soared by 209% to 1,939,337 units from the corresponding period in 2009. Meanwhile, shipments to China grew by 19% to 137,070 units from the corresponding period in 2009.
In the face of the financial tsunami, the Group initiated a series of measures in 2009 to improve operating efficiency. It enhanced efforts to strengthen cooperation with major telecommunications operators and actively expanded its Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) business. While concentrating on developing the low-end product segment, the Group also steadily explored the mid and high-end market segments. As a result, it is in a better position to benefit from the recovery of the global economy.
