HONG KONG, June 24 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Avnet Electronics Marketing Asia, a business region of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE:AVT), has been selected as the Most Preferred Overseas Distributor in an annual customer preference study conducted by Electronics Supply & Manufacturing, China (ESMC) magazine.

This marks the ninth year in a row that Avnet Electronics Marketing Asia has won in this category. It also won an award for Best Technical Support in this year's survey.

About 60 percent of 1,600 submissions that ESMC received were from original electronics manufacturers (OEMs) or original design manufacturers (ODMs). Faced with highly competitive market conditions and supply shortage issues in 2009, electronics manufacturers have been imposing more stringent requirements on distributors. In the case of "preferred distributors," the top three selection criteria were product quality, reputation and supply capability.

"Avnet Electronics Marketing is honored to be recognized again in this survey which canvasses the opinion of actual purchasing executives across the country who decide what they want to buy and who they buy it from. The accolade means a lot, especially coming after the challenging market condition in 2009. The recognition proves our capability and responsiveness in meeting customer requirements, no matter what the prevailing market conditions may be," said Victor Koh, Regional President of Avnet Memec China.

Avnet Electronics Marketing is committed to customer service. That means leveraging its design chain and supply chain solutions and responding quickly and flexibly to the changing needs of customers and suppliers. The results of the latest ESM China survey show that this approach has clearly paid dividends.

"We understand that one of the keys to remaining competitive is to keep offering customers something new that increases the values that Avnet Electronic Marketing delivers. Over time, the addition of value-added services such as localized technical support, world-class logistics service and investing in resources to support customers adds up to an unbeatable value proposition, that just keeps getting better and better," said Frederick Fu, Regional President of Avnet Electronics Marketing China.

"A case in point is our new Avnet Express Asia e-commerce service which we plan to launch shortly. It will provide real-time online support and help us serve customers better and faster," said Fu.

The ESM China survey, which is conducted annually, analyzed manufacturers' preferences and the way they choose their preferred distributors. It interviewed purchasing executives throughout the country who were jointly responsible for buying billions of RMBs worth of components in the last year, the majority of which were purchased through distributors.
