- Seed Earns $500,000 and Title of "Champion of Champions"
DUBLIN, Ireland, July 7 /PRNewswire-Asia/ --
Full Tilt Poker pro Huck Seed won the Tournament of Champions at the 2010 World Series of Poker. The four-time WSOP bracelet winner scooped the first prize of $500,000, edging out Team Full Tilt's Howard Lederer for the top prize.
The Tournament of Champions made a return to the WSOP following a three-year absence. The public were invited to vote for their favorite WSOP bracelet winners, with the top 20 candidates receiving the most votes qualifying for the tournament. Previous Tournament of Champions winners and WSOP Main Event champions also qualified automatically, along with two sponsor exemptions.
The 27-person tournament began on June 27th, featuring short sessions which allowed the competitors to compete in the other WSOP* events. Full Tilt Poker was represented by nine players including Phil Ivey, Chris Ferguson and Allen Cunningham.
The event was played intermittently over eight days, needing a marathon 16-hour final session to play to a conclusion. The last day began with 17 players, which played down to an all-Full Tilt Poker final two in Seed and Howard Lederer. Lederer began heads-up play holding a chip lead of 468K to 342K. At one stage Lederer was just one card away from winning, when he led after the flop with all of Seed's chips in the pot. However, Seed came from behind on the river to hit a straight and double up into the lead.
Seed was never behind again and the final hand saw Lederer move all in with Q-8 which was called with A-2. The board ran 7-6-6-9-A to give Seed the first prize check of $500,000 and the title of "Champion of Champions".
