Le Meridien Hosts "A New Perspective on Chinese Contemporary Art: Is Chinese Art Culturally Relevant Outside of China?"

On 19th July at Le Royal Meridien Shanghai, two new LM100™ members, Yan Lei and Chen Wenbo, will be introduced during “A New Perspective” event.

 SHANGHAI, July 22 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Le Meridien’s approach of curated experiences in the world of the arts is enriched with the launch of ‘A New Perspective’ signature event series, featuring contemporary culture talks that further transform Le Meridien into a creative hub.

“A New Perspective” event series is designed to showcase LM100 members through an interactive experience exploring an LM100 member’s talent and will allow guests to gather new insights and stimulate dialogue. Jerome Sans, Le Meridien’s Cultural Curator, is the founding member of the LM100 programme which was created in 2007 and now has 23 members.

“A New Perspective” signature event series with Yan Lei and Chen Wenbo, artists and LM100 members, will take place in Le Royal Meridien Hotel in Shanghai. Jerome Sans will be leading a discussion on Chinese Contemporary Art with Yan Lei and Chen Wenbo.

This event marks the launch of these two Chinese artists as new LM100 members and will showcase their new works created for Le Meridien. Chen Wenbo’s artworks will be used on the entrances of hotels as part of Le Meridien’s award-winning Arrival Experience. Through a visual and audio effect, guests’ minds are reset, inspiring and enticing them to discover the world of Le Meridien. Yan Lei has designed a set of limited edition key cards as part of the Unlock Art programme. The UNLOCK ART programme introduces hotel key cards as a piece of limited edition artwork, which also offers special entry to a local contemporary cultural center.

About Yan Lei

Yan Lei was born in Hebei, China, in 1965. In 1982, he graduated from the Handcraft School of Hebei, China, and he later graduated from the Zhejiang China Fine Arts Academy in 1991. He lives and works in Beijing. Yan Lei is one of the most outrageous, influential and prominent Chinese contemporary artists, known for his daring and psychological portraits of blurry and confused scenes. His key card series is the latest to be introduced into Le Meridien Hotels.

About Chen Wenbo

Born in Chongqing, China in 1969, Chen Wenbo graduated from Sichuan Academy of Fine Art in 1991.Since then he has lived and worked in Beijing and has participated annually in numerous international group shows, with his paintings which are inspired by city life.

His works for Le Meridien epitomize his belief in new interpretations of the world and life.

About the LM100 Creative Community

LM100 is a global creative community of creative spirits and cultural innovators founded by Le Meridien’s cultural curator, Jerome Sans. Jerome Sans is a non-traditional curator, a cultural agitator and pioneer of contemporary art. He is currently the director at the Ullens Center of Contemporary Art in Beijing, China.
