BEIJING, Nov. 20, 2010 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- More than 800 members of the US business community and the US and Chinese governments came together Friday night for the 11th annual Appreciation Dinner hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce in the People's Republic of China (AmCham-China). US Ambassador to China Jon M. Huntsman, Jr. and Commerce Vice Minister Wang Chao of the Ministry of Commerce told the crowd that US-China relations remain strong.
In his remarks, guest of honor Wang Chao told the crowd of American business leaders that people from the US and China should work together to maintain and develop a mutually beneficial bilateral trade relationship and protect the long-term interests of both countries.
Speaking to an audience that included more than 130 Chinese officials, Ambassador Huntsman noted, "the US-China relationship is essential enough to where you cannot ignore the differences, but what is key is honest, open, and respectful dialogue. We should be proud of our achievements, especially cooperation on the global economy and advances in healthcare, aviation, and intellectual property rights."
AmCham-China Chairman John D. Watkins, Jr. also emphasized that the US and China have much to gain from cooperation. "As we create our future together, the relationships between Chinese and American businesses will become ever more interdependent and, frankly, ever more complicated," Mr. Watkins said. "We are each others' suppliers, customers, partners and competitors. And we are also each others' friends."
AmCham-China's annual Appreciation Dinner gives attendees the chance to celebrate the longstanding mutually beneficial cooperation between the US and Chinese governments and the US business community in China. In addition to Vice Minister Wang and Ambassador Huntsman, there were a number of high ranking officials at this year's Appreciation Dinner. Among the attendees were Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Cui Tiankai, Deputy Commissioner for the State Administration of Taxation Wang Li, the member of Standing committee of the National Committee of the CPPCC Zhu Yongxin、Hebei Province Vice Governor Yang Chongyong and Nanjing Deputy Mayor Zheng Zeguang.
