The Hong Kong Institute of Chartered Secretaries hosted its 12th Annual Corporate and Regulatory Update (ACRU) to give first hand regulatory updates to governance professionals
HONG KONG, May 18, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- The Hong Kong Institute of Chartered Secretaries (HKICS) today hosted the twelfth ACRU conference at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. It is traditionally the most popular and largest professional development programme run by the Institute every year. This year was no exception, and with approximately 800 delegates in attendance.
"In today's business world, governance and compliance issues have become a strategic and operational focus of all businesses. In turn there is an increasing need for corporations to acquire updated regulatory information in order to run their businesses effectively. Besides, we also see our members reporting that their day-to-day duties increasingly deal with different challenges of governance and compliance issues," said Mrs. April Chan, President of HKICS and Chairperson of the Company Secretaries Panel. "ACRU is designed to respond to such growing needs. This annual event has been the main platform and the biggest channel for governance professionals in Hong Kong to exchange views with each other and directly with the regulators," Mrs. Chan continued.
During ACRU this year, an update on the Companies Ordinance was presented by Companies Registry (CR). Other discussion topics included an update on listing rules policy development by Hong Kong Clearing & Exchanges Ltd (HKEx); anti-money laundering and suspicious transaction reporting by Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA); and the recent developments by Securities and Futures Commission (SFC).
"With the continued support of the CR, HKEx, HKMA, SFC and the various professional bodies for ACRU, governance professionals obtained first hand regulatory updates from the local regulatory bodies in this one-day ACRU conference. It's the most efficient and interactive way for governance professionals to learn about the regulatory updates," added Mrs. Chan. "On behalf of the Institute, I would like to thank the regulators, supporting professional bodies and our many sponsors for their kind support in making ACRU a continued success."
