Short list announced for the IR Magazine Greater China Awards 2011

HONG KONG, Oct. 18, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Two Taiwanese technology companies loom large over the upcoming Greater China Awards in the 11th year of IR magazine's Asian awards and conference events. HTC and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company feature on the short list for eight out of the 30 categories to be awarded at a prestigious luncheon at the Conrad Hong Kong on December 1, 2011. Both companies will compete for the grand prix prize for best overall IR by a large-cap company and best IR for a CEO in Taiwan.

The prospect of an eight-award haul for HTC is even more notable for being the first time that the smartphone maker has been short-listed in any category at IR magazine's definitive awards. Anta Sports, the Chinese sportswear brand, is another high-profile newcomer to the awards, featuring on six short lists in total. Hong Kong companies Cosco Pacific, Hang Lung, SmarTone Telecommunications and Li & Fung are each short-listed for four awards.

A full breakdown of this year's short list is available below, or on our website at www.InsideInvestorRelations.com/gchina.

The short list and the eventual winners, announced at the awards luncheon on December 1, are determined by an independent survey conducted by Mary Maude Research. During July and August, researchers spoke to more than 300 buy-side analysts, sell-side analysts and portfolio managers located in the region. Other awards categories voted for by the investment community including best corporate governance and disclosure policy, and best investor relations during a corporate transaction.

The event at the Conrad will be hosted in association with Hong Kong Investor Relations Association and is co-sponsored by Arkadin IR Events, BNY Mellon Depositary Receipts, Jefferies and NASDAQ OMX.

Celebrating 10 years of honoring award-winning IR in Greater China, Janet Dignan, the founding editor of IR magazine, says: 'In a period of such volatility in global stock markets and in the world economy -- involving Asia at least as much as anywhere else -- IR is both more challenging and more crucial. I'm delighted our awards will once again be recognizing the top performers, and that the conference will provide the opportunity for analysis and advancement of best practice investor relations.'

IR magazine's Investor Perception Study, Asia 2011/2012, an extensive research report on the winners and short-listed companies, will be published following the event. This year's report will include the new Asia Top 50 IR ranking: a comprehensive list of the top companies across Greater China and South East Asia.
