MADRID, Jan. 26, 2012 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- We Art Water Film Festival. The first international short film competition to raise worldwide public awareness of the water and food safety problem, as part of World Water Day 2012.

The We Are Water Foundation introduced the first edition of the We Art Water Film Festival at the Roca Madrid Gallery, which seeks to recognise and reward the talent of those who know how to get across the message of the water and food safety problem through their audio-visual work.

The panel for the first year is made up of several names from the world of cinema, literature and cooperation such as Maria de Medeiros, Isabel Coixet and Carlos Jiménez Renjifo, representative of the UN, among others.

The competition is open to all adults, and consists of creating audio-visual pieces of between 1 and 3 minutes for one of three categories: fiction or non-fiction micro-documentary, animation, and mobile. Entries will be accepted until 30 April 2012 at: http://www.weartwaterfestival.org

The We Art Water Film Festival also has the support of various organizations. At the presentation Afsane Bassir Pour, director of the United Nations Regional Information Centre (UNRIC), stated: "Through initiatives such as the We Art Water Film Festival, we want to show world leaders, during the Rio+20 conference, the kind of future the people want. We need "artivists", activist-artists to help us spread the message about the importance of water in the world, not through powerful words but simply with images."
