HONG KONG, Feb. 28, 2012 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- UBM plc announces it has acquired the Malaysian International Furniture Fair (MIFF) from its private owners on behalf of UBM Asia (www.ubmasia.com).

MIFF (www.miff.com.my) is Malaysia's largest exhibition held in Kuala Lumpur and the largest furniture exhibition in South-East Asia. Established in 1995, this annual event is an export-oriented furniture trade show. The 2011 Fair attracted over 450 exhibitors and 20,000 visitors and is 30,000 square metres net in size. 30% of the exhibiting companies and 40% of the visitors were foreign, from over 100 countries. The event generated revenues of approximately RM20m (US$6.6m).

MIFF is complementary to existing UBM events, most notably Furniture China which runs every September in Shanghai and is the world's largest international furniture fair in the number of exhibiting companies and the UK Interiors exhibitions/conferences. UBM also organises the Index furniture fairs in India, where Index in Mumbai is the leading furniture exhibition in India. The acquisition of MIFF extends UBM's leading position in the furniture sector to ASEAN.

The founder of MIFF, Dato Tan Chin Huat, will remain with the business. Ms Karen Goi, General Manager of MIFF and MIFF team will be incorporated into UBM Malaysia office, reporting to M Gandhi, Managing Director of UBM Asia (ASEAN Business).

Jime Essink, President and Chief Executive Officer of UBM Asia said:

"Adding MIFF to AMB's exhibitions which we acquired last May, UBM Malaysia office is now the largest trade fair organiser in Malaysia. Together with our offices in Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam, UBM Asia provides a unique and extensive network across the ASEAN which will greatly facilitate our customers in exploring the ASEAN markets which will become one big market in 2015. This will bring MIFF to a new level and will certainly benefit the exhibitors and visitors of this prestigious event. We are looking forward to working closely with Dato Tan and would like to welcome Ms Goi and the MIFF team into UBM Asia."
