Family-friendly carnival games, interactive booths, and cultural performances to celebrate family values with the community

HONG KONG, Nov. 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The HSBC Community Festival 2013 (the 'Festival'), organised by HSBC, will be held at the Chater Road Pedestrian Precinct in Central on 8 December 2013 (Sunday) from 1pm to 6pm. The annual event is open to the public free-of-charge. Under the theme of 'Strengthening Ties, Building Community', the Festival will feature family-friendly games such as 'Dime Pitch' and 'Ring Toss -- Aim and Throw!' resembling a classical carnival of yesteryears. Cultural performances, photo booths, and interactive games run by community partners from Hong Kong's 18 districts will provide an opportunity for families and children to revel in the nostalgic memories and festive atmosphere of old Hong Kong.

The Festival will kick off with lion dances and performances that reflect the culture of Hong Kong's rich heritage as well as families and community. To highlight the theme 'Strengthening Ties, Building Community' and with the belief that community engagement starts with families, Hong Kong's 18 districts will showcase their interpretation of family values, such as appreciation, communication, respect and tolerance, responsibility, trust, fun and laughter and family-work balance. These creative booths will be grouped under three zones - 'Love', 'Unity' and 'Wellness'.

The Festival is a celebration of the HSBC Community Partnership Programme (the 'Programme') which enriches the Hong Kong community and fosters a more inclusive society. HSBC launched the Programme in 2012 to nurture the development of local districts and to unleash their community potential, by supporting and funding non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in all 18 districts to organise community projects. HSBC budgeted HKD18 million for the Programme in 2013, designated for the ongoing District Community Programme and various theme-based projects. This year, the Programme has funded 290 projects, and is expected to benefit more than 500,000 people in Hong Kong.
