General Public, corporate teams, youths and families are welcome to experience the excitement of physical challenge, planning and judgment in Rogaine.

Rogaine was introduced by The Hong Kong Award for Young People (AYP) in 2007. Since then, it has been held annually with growing number of participants and ardent responses. Rogaine has become a burgeoning cross-country sport in Hong Kong in recent years. Rogaining is the sport of long distance cross-country team navigation which requires a very high standard of course setting which covers vaster wilderness area than ordinary orienteering competitions. And the race itself has no set route, Rogainers could strategically plan their own route according to their ability and preference in order to visit as many check points as possible in the set time limit.

Apart from the only 24 hours team navigation race in Hong Kong, "2013 Rogaine24"also has 3 hours and 6 hours races for general public, family and those who love team work and nature to enjoy the excitement of Rogaine.

Moreover, Rogaine is also excellent for team spirit training for corporate which helps build up trust and cohesion between team members throughout route planning, plan execution and contingency management. And "Corporate Team Championship" is specially designed in Rogaine for corporate's participation.

Rogaine raises fund for AYP in support of its youth development work in Hong Kong. The enrollment of Rogaine is now opened till 7 December 2012. To support this challenging and meaning event, ACT NOW!

Origin of the sport of Rogaine

30 years ago, Rod, Gail, and Neil Phillips, the founders of Rogaine, observed that the hiking competition at that time required all participants to follow the same sequence in visiting the set checkpoints. All participants competing in the race could only follow the others for the same direction which could never provide an opportunity for them to test their own navigation and mountaineering skills. Hence, the founders created Rogaine, which requires participants to set their own route for the cross-country navigation competition. Rogaine was then started near Melbourne during the 1970s and by word-of-mouth extended across Australia, then to NZ, USA, Canada, Germany; 20 countries are now affiliated with the International Rogaining Federation based in Melbourne. The International Rogaining Federation would hold the World Rogaining Championships in different parts of the world bi-annually which attracts thousands of Rogainers each time.

Rogaine was introduced by The Hong Kong Award for Young People (AYP) in 2007, and the first Rogaine competition in Hong Kong was held in the same year. Rogaine is an all-rounded challenge which matches perfectly with the all-rounded development promoted by AYP. Both Rogaine and AYP encourage young people to meet challenges, explore their potentials, grow and learn through determination. To date, Rogaine has become the annual fundraising event of AYP. 6-hour and 24-hour race would be organized in every alternate year. AYP hopes the public could know more about AYP through Rogaine and at the same time, raise more funds to provide learning opportunities for young people in Hong Kong.

Organizer -- AYP Introduction

The Hong Kong Award for Young People (AYP), formerly known as The Duke of Edinburgh's Award, is one of the active members of The International Award Association. AYP was established in Hong Kong in 1961. To date, we have more than 54,000 young people participating in the Award Scheme in around 650 youth organizations, secondary schools, tertiary institutes, uniformed groups and government departments.

AYP is a programme about challenge, perseverance, enterprise and achievement. With five decades experience in youth development, AYP is the pioneer of Hong Kong non-formal education. It fills the gap left by formal education and encourages young people to achieve whole person development through a unique appreciation system recognized by the society. AYP provides young people (aged between 14 and 25) with chances of facing different challenges and opportunities to utilize their leisure time in a constructive way, to set and achieve personal goals, and to know more about themselves and their community through experiential learning either in groups or in person. There are three levels of the Award, which are Bronze, Silver and Gold. To gain an Award, the participants have to fulfill the requirements of the different sections of activities, namely Service, Expeditions, Skills, Physical Recreation and Residential Project. (Residential Project is an additional section for Gold Award.)

The Patron of AYP is The Hon. LEUNG Chun Ying, GBM, GBS, JP, the Chief Executive of the HKSAR. In Hong Kong, before the re-unification with the Mainland China, AYP was honored to have the Governors to present the Gold Award Certificates. Since 1997, we also have The Chief Executive of the HKSAR to officiate at our Gold Award Presentation Ceremonies.
