Dancing in the water was optional but caught on quickly as the hot Beija-Flor samba dancers sent the mercury soaring, aided and abetted by the beat of the best dance music in Macao, courtesy of outstanding international DJs, and the spectacle of a grand fireworks display. Ratcheting up the energy even further, the Skull & Cufflinks made their first appearance in the territory at the opening ceremony, and were received with tumultuous applause by people who know a party when they see one!

World Samba Champions Beija-Flor went on the following day to lend some Rio moves to the Carnival Parade, which wound its way through the mall and the casino floor before emerging outside The Venetian Lagoon to great acclaim from visitors and guests.

The excitement moved up a gear for Saturday's over-subscribed Copacabana Charity Ball, which starred legendary band Chic, fronted by Nile Rodgers, perennial Hong Kong favorite Kenny Bee and the irrepressible Beija-Flor. With all funds raised from the Silent Auction Copacabana Ball and various fundraising activities throughout the Carnival matched on a dollar for dollar basis by Sands China Ltd. - over MOP500,000 will go to support The Women's General Association of Macau - Relief Fund for Poverty and Single Parent Family.

"Sands China is proud to be at the forefront of a government initiative which seeks to broaden the appeal of this exciting city," said Edward Tracy, President and Chief Operating Officer of Sands China Ltd. "In The Venetian Carnival 2011, we believe we have done just that for families as well as gamers and businesspeople and are also delighted to use the Carnival as a vehicle to raise funds for the less fortunate in local society. Encouraged by the great success of Macao's first international carnival, Sands China will continue to bring the best entertainment to the territory to solidify its reputation as the best entertainment resort in the region."

The Venetian Carnival 2011 was enthusiastically supported by the Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) and the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macau SAR Government (ICM), Art for All Society, Association for the Promotion of Macau Cultural Development, the Macau Artists Society, and the Macau Designers Association.

The Venetian Carnival 2011 - a fusion of carnivals from Brazil, Italy, New Orleans, Portugal and Spain - offered a high profile platform for talented local artists, designers and musicians plus those from Portuguese-speaking countries to demonstrate their stunning showmanship, an opportunity very much in line with The Venetian Macao's support and encouragement of the development of Macao's creative industry.
