READING, England, Feb. 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --

API provides potential audience of 1 billion end points for real-time communications

Acision, a global leader in mobile services, today announced that it is licensing Crocodile RCS technology to enable WebRTC based services. By partnering with Crocodile, Acision will now be able to facilitate liberated, real-time communications to add value to operator and enterprise customers, while also providing a toolkit to assist developers in the creation of advanced web and mobile device communication services for enhanced IP-based voice, video, conferencing, file sharing and messaging engagement.

Comprising an open and standardised media profile, Acision WebRTC is a game changing technology delivering secure, carrier-grade, peer-to-peer communications. Acision WebRTC enables cost savings by bypassing costly telecom networks and can integrate into enterprises' existing communications infrastructure and applications through standard protocols such as SIP. Developers can also build powerful web-based and mobile communication applications through the Acision WebRTC SDK with its rich set of APIs, all without the need for any additional infrastructure.

JF Sullivan, EVP Product Management and CMO, at Acision, commented, "WebRTC makes all interactions contextual and, as an enabling technology, will provide massive savings for any business that requires real-time communications. Call centres looking to run their entire operation via a web browser connected to Google Chrome can do so cost effectively with direct connectivity to customers and over-the-air updates. Online banking applications may also be built into financial sites to enable customers to speak to a representative directly and as soon as they're signed into their online account, without the need to provide additional passwords or authentication. WebRTC also enables peer-to-peer data to be shared securely, without a third party being able to listen into it, and could therefore have an extremely valuable impact on the world of business communications. These are just some of the exciting benefits that this can provide."

Peter Dunkley, Technical Director at Crocodile RCS, said: "Today, any mobile device running Android OS, and any PC globally with Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox has WebRTC built-in, so for a developer writing an app using this API there is a potential audience of over one billion end points. With this in mind, WebRTC technology is poised to revolutionise the way people communicate using both fixed and mobile devices. It allows web applications to control real-time voice and video communications directly from the browser, making it unnecessary to download soft clients, apps, or plugins. Remote communication with any business is also enhanced through process and context exchange making communication a truly shared experience. Together Acision and Crocodile can unleash the full potential of WebRTC."

Sullivan continued, "Enterprise and operators who own large amounts of legacy infrastructure or call centre technology, may now leverage this technology head start by integrating WebRTC into their communication strategy. Operators, for example, can extend their core network to web browser applications quickly and simply. Anyone in the business of real-time communications should see this as fundamental to their business - bringing new options for IP-based engagement."

Acision has a rich history of providing SMS infrastructure and mobile messaging services, currently working with 270 mobile operators in over 100 countries, including eight out of the top 10 global mobile operators. In light of an increasing trend towards OTT and rich messaging services, Acision has a renewed strategic focus on IP messaging, consumer and enterprise services; enabling WebRTC is key to this new strategy.

Acision will be exhibiting in the App Planet at Mobile World Congress 2014, on stand 8.1A41, where they will be demonstrating their WebRTC capability with Crocodile. Acision will also be holding a dedicated Forum entitled "Innovate to Accelerate in a world of Digital Services and OTT" in Theatre D of the Theatre District, on Monday 24th February at 3pm.
