President Christian Murck to address two committees
BEIJING, June 15 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- The American Chamber of Commerce in the People's Republic of China (AmCham-China) said today that it welcomes the opportunity to address issues in US-China relations before two committees in Washington, DC. This week, AmCham-China President Christian Murck will address both the House Ways and Means Committee and the International Trade Commission (ITC).
Mr. Murck said he was pleased that lawmakers are listening to the American business community in China. "It is a positive sign that Congress is focused on China," he said. "The US-China relationship is critically important to the success of the US economy. We are proud to serve as a bridge between these two countries."
The ITC, an independent federal agency, is putting together a report on intellectual property rights (IPR) protection and indigenous innovation policy in China for the Senate Finance Committee. "IPR protection and innovation policy are two of the most important obstacles for American companies in China," Mr. Murck said. "It is a good sign that theses issues are high on the US agenda. We look forward to continued dialogue with both the US and Chinese governments on IPR and innovation policy."
Meanwhile, the House Ways and Means Committee, chaired by Representative Sander Levin (D-MI), will be holding hearings on China's trade and industrial policies. "As companies on the ground in China, our members bring much to the table," said Mr. Murck. "We look forward to providing a first-hand account of how China's policies are affecting American businesses."
The two committee hearings come just over a month after AmCham-China sent a delegation to meet with lawmakers and officials in Washington on US-China issues. During that trip members discussed some of the important issues that US companies face in China. These issues are outlined in AmCham-China's 2010 White Paper on the State of US Business in China.
