HONG KONG, Jan. 11 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- On December 31st 2006, Michael U. Villinger, CEO at Birkart Globistics air + ocean, went into retirement. He entered the company in 1998 and has since then managed the Thiel subsidiary's international air and sea freight business with great success.
Under the direction of Michael U. Villinger as CEO of air + ocean, Birkart Globistics intensified its intercontinental activities: the company established five independent regions and provided structures for its strong international presence. At the same time, it was possible to optimise flows in the long run by putting a consolidated software system as well as a unified financial system into operation worldwide.
Michael U. Villinger continued to promote Birkart Globistics' successful course of expansion: the comprehensive product portfolio was expanded, a number of new branches and national organisations were added to the network, strengthening the company's international focus. In the past two years, Birkart Globistics established three new national organisations -- in Poland, Dubai and Italy. The company currently offers its customers 200 locations worldwide, including 83 of its own branches, air and sea freight transports, warehousing, distribution and value-added services.
Experience and commitment
Since the beginning of 2006, Birkart Globistics air + ocean, under the direction of Michael U. Villinger, has been operating as a separate independent company. Michael U. Villinger can look back on a successful career in the logistics branch: among the most important highlights are his senior positions as CEO at Danzas Germany and as a Member of the Board at Birkart Globistics AG. In addition, Michael U. Villinger was Deputy Chairman of the Board at the "Fachverband Spedition und Logistik" (Professional Association of Forwarding and Logistics) in Hesse.
Michael U. Villinger is succeeded by Helmut Kaspers, who already joined the management team in October 2006. Starting from January 1st 2007 he assumed his position as Group CEO and will be, alongside Walter Nienstedt, Managing Director of Finance, at the head of Birkart Globistics air + ocean.
