Aim at Promoting Palm Print Illness Precaution for the Poor

Part of the Auctioned Fund will be Donated to Hong Kong Red Cross for Relief Work in China

Hong Kong, June 26 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- Local renowned collector Master Wong Yuen Chung will donate three rare and valuable root sculptures for charity auction among which 30% (without deducting any cost) of the auction fund will be donated to Hong Kong Red Cross China Relief Fund for emergency relief operation. A press conference announcing the charity auction is held today at the Hotel Miramar Hong Kong. Representatives from Hong Kong Red Cross were invited to participate in the event as its beneficiary.

The three auctioned sculptures are with a total estimated value of over HKD20,000,000. The auction would be one of the most remarkable auctions in Hong Kong and will be carried out by the distinguished AA Property Auctioneers Ltd. The date of the auction is tentatively set at 17 July, 2007.

Raising Public Awareness on Creating a Better Future

The renowned collector, Master Wong stated, "It is my pleasure to be able to help in the relief operation of Hong Kong Red Cross with a few of my collections. Despite there are many generous people in Hong Kong, there are few who would think of innovative and distinctive ways to contribute to the community. Disasters have robbed millions of people's homes and livelihoods of different provinces in China. I may not have a big sum of money to donate directly to Hong Kong Red Cross, but I could help by offering these precious collections of mine. "

As an expert in palm reading diagnosis, Master Wong does not plan to donate all of the auctioned funds to Hong Kong Red Cross because he has another charity project in mind. He stated, "Well-off people can always afford annual body check-ups in order to prevent serous illnesses. However, poor people cannot take care of themselves. Fatal illnesses always stem from neglected chronic diseases. I am going to spend the rest of the auctioned funds to establish a palm reading clinic in the destitute areas of China to help the needy ones."

Charity in the Short Run -- Immediate Relief on Disastrous Provinces in China

Since late May, continuous rainstorm caused serious flooding and landslide in the provinces of Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Jiangxi and Fujian in Mainland China. According to the statistics provided by the Ministry of Civil Affairs, as of 12th June 4 pm, more than 13.6 million people were affected, 69,000 houses were collapsed, with direct economic loss reached RMB4.73 billion. Massive earthquake measuring Richter scale 6.4 struck further hard-hit Yunnan Pu'er city on the 3 June, 2007. According to the statistics provided by the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the intense earthquake is one with the highest magnitude since the devastating Lijiang Earthquake happened in 1996, causing 180,000 people to be relocated and more than 536,000 people affected. More than 90,000 houses collapsed and 270,000 houses were wrecked, with an economic loss amounting to RMB 2.5 billion.

Mr. Alex Choi, committee member of the International & Relief Service Management Committee of Hong Kong Red Cross said, "Hong Kong Red Cross is delighted to be the beneficiary of this charity auction and we thank the organizers for their good deed. We will definitely fulfill our mission in allocating the donation to those who are in most urgent needs and save them from difficult situations that they suffer from year after year."

Charity in the Long Run -- Better to Give Than to Take

Personal and corporate donations can be commonly found. However, donating such valuable items for charity auctions is hardly usual. Master Wong continues, "There are many artwork collectors. The most three valuable sculptures had been chosen for this auction in order to encourage collectors to contribute to the community. By making more meaningful use of artifacts, it is hoped that collectors can truly understand that it is always better to give than to take."
