Around 200 students from 7 schools and intellectually disabled students participated in "Heart to Heart with China" Grand Puzzle Competition.

The puzzle was designed by Mr. Leung Kam Biu (Setmund), 2012 Hong Kong Spirit Ambassador, to convey its main message through the ideas of "real image" and "abstraction" and the contrast between complexity and simplicity. The design concept was backboned by the ideas of "heart to heart" and "calligraphy and painting".

The "simplistic" and "abstract" watercolor painted on the left of the puzzle symbolized Western ideas, while the "complex" and "real-image" flowers signified the Chinese essence, representing the integration of oriental and the Western culture metaphorically. In the middle of the puzzle, two dull and matt hands from two sides approaching the centre created a "heart" shape and turned ruddy and alive because of the "heart", implying the warmth and harmony created by the "heart". The puzzle depicted the harmony realized by linked hearts regardless of regions, culture or skin color, celebrating the spirit of friendship.

Mr. Karl Ho, Deputy SecretaryGeneralof CPECCF, said, "Thanks to the concerted endeavour of the participants. In addition, the event demonstrates the harmonious integration of youth regardless of nationality, ethnicity, skin color and physical disability. Moreover, we would like to promote the passion of youth over China's five-thousand-year culture through the art of calligraphy and painting."
