(Nasdaq: YONG) ("Yongye" or the "Company"), a leading agricultural nutrient company in China, today announced that on January 16, 2011, China Central Television ("CCTV") honored Mr. Baosheng Tong, the Company's Chief Scientist, naming him the "2010 Person of the Year for San Nong". Mr. Tong attended the award ceremony on January 16, 2010. CCTV is the largest nationwide television network in China.
"San Nong" is a government-led rural development initiative in mainland China that encompasses agriculture, rural areas, and rural farmers. In 2009, the PRC central government invested RMB 716 billion and is expected to continue to significantly increase its investment in San Nong, which is one of the most important development issues in China.
Mr. Tong is recognized for his contribution in leading Yongye's team in helping Chinese farmers with Yongye's innovative products as well as providing Chinese farmers with village-level technical support utilizing Yongye's over 24,000 branded stores across China. There were a total of 15 award recipients who were honored for their significant contributions to China's agriculture sector, including Mr. Yuan Longping, a Chinese agricultural scientist and educator who is a household name in China and is known as the "The Father of Hybrid Rice" for developing a widely-used hybrid rice species.
