Telecoms company wins six awards and is named top company in the IR Magazine Greater China Top 30 for second year running

HONG KONG, Dec. 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- China Telecom has proved itself to be top of the IR pile in Greater China after being named the number one company in the region for the second year running at the IR Magazine Awards -- Greater China 2013.

The telecoms company also held onto six awards -- matching its haul last year -- over the 10 categories in which it was short-listed, including the grand prix for best overall investor relations by a large-cap company. It also won gongs for best investor relations by a mainland Chinese company, best corporate literature, best investment community meetings and best in sector for technologies & telecoms.

At the event, held at the Conrad Hong Kong hotel on Thursday, China Telecom's Jacky Yung was also named as the best individual IRO in mainland China, beating off stiff competition from Pacific Basin Shipping and China Resources Enterprise.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) also maintained its IR performance, finishing in second place and remaining the second most-decorated company in Greater China for the second year in a row. The firm picked up awards for best corporate governance and disclosure and best investor relations by a Taiwanese company. TSMC's director of corporate communications, Elizabeth Sun, who spoke on the evening, was named best IRO in Taiwan.

Fellow technology outfits Lenovo and Delta Electronics also performed well at this year's awards, finishing third and fourth, respectively, while Taiwanese counterparts Far EasTone made an impressive assault on the rankings, climbing from 90th place in 2012 to reach seventh this year.

The IR Magazine Awards -- Greater China 2013 are decided solely by an independent survey of investors and analysts, all of whom are located in the region. Just like in IR Magazine's other awards in Europe and the Americas, investors and analysts are asked to vote for their favorite company in each awards category.

This year, 370 respondents took part in the survey. The company with the most votes in each respective category wins the award. Votes for all award categories are aggregated to rank the IR Magazine Greater China Top 30.

China Telecom is also the top-ranked Chinese company in the IR Magazine Asia Top 50, which is based on all the companies covered by IR Magazine's two Asian awards events in South East Asia and Greater China. The full Asia Top 50 will be announced when the IR Magazine Investor Perception Study -- Asia 2013/2014 is published later this month. This annual report on IR in Asia documents all the awards and rankings this year and profiles the top-ranked companies in the region.
