Chinese Designer Zheng JianWei Wins IES Illumination Award of Excellence

SEATTLE, Nov. 30 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Mr. Zheng JianWei was presented with the Paul Waterbury Award for Outdoor Lighting Design, Award of Excellence, at the Illuminating Engineering Society Annual Conference presentation of the 2009 IES Illumination Awards. Mr. Zheng addressed the audience of his lighting professional peers in the ceremony and became the first lighting designer from Mainland China to receive such a coveted award. This year there were over 500 submitted entries.

The Illuminating Engineering Society of North America issues the Paul Waterbury Award for Outdoor Lighting Design, Award of Excellence, each year to the best project worldwide, as voted for by a committee of lighting professionals. As the IES is over a hundred years old, this award is the highest level of recognition in the professional field of lighting design. The project that the award was given for was the 7th Courtyard of Beijing Olympic Green Central District.

Mr. Zheng also won three Awards of Merit for three separate projects, the Beijing LAN Club interior lighting, the National Stadium (Bird's Nest) facade lighting, and the Beijing Han MeiLin Museum interior and outdoor lighting.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Zheng expressed that he was honored to receive this recognition. He emphasized that the global interdependence of different countries, philosophies and cultures is the new way of life. Undoubtedly, design will exert interesting influences in this trend. Finally, he hopes that this award will initiate greater communication and mutual learning opportunities amongst lighting professionals worldwide.
