Companies' New "Horoscope" Requirements

SHANGHAI, Dec. 20, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- A new hiring trend may have emerged in Chinese companies with horoscopes now part of the selection criteria. According to a recent news article by AFP highlighting this trend, some employers are looking for particular star signs for their potential hires.

Capricorns, Libras and Pisces are purportedly preferred candidates based on their strengths as these individuals are perceived to be hardworking, outgoing and have good interpersonal skills. In particular, female hiring managers were observed to have an inclination toward hiring professionals with these horoscopes.

As a professional recruitment consultancy, Robert Walters believes in fair hiring practices and employers should ideally not hire someone based on their star sign. Robert Walters' experienced recruitment consultants believe in evaluating a candidate's experience, competency and track record for a more balanced opinion. Contrary to this trend, Robert Walters has not seen specific instance of clients requesting for candidates based on their horoscopes.

Carter Yang, Managing Director at Robert Walters China, says: "As a professional recruitment consultancy, we believe in fair practice and non-discriminatory hiring. We conduct competency-based interviews and our experienced consultants perform reference checks to ensure clients hire the best and most appropriately qualified candidates."
