SHANGHAI, March 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- DHL Global Forwarding, a leading provider of air, sea and road freight services in Europe and Asia, today received two awards at the sixth annual edition of the International Alternative Investment Review (IAIR) Leadership Awards. Steve Huang, CEO, DHL Global Forwarding China was recognized as "CEO of the Year" in Asia Pacific, while DHL Global Forwarding Hong Kong received top honors for the inaugural "Trade Lane Management Team of the Year" award.
Organized by global independent publication IAIR, the awards are one of the world's leading accolades for excellence in global economy and sustainability. Nominations are voted by IAIR readers, while winners are selected by a judging panel comprising of IAIR staff and stakeholders.
Newly minted "CEO of the Year" -- Steve Huang, was lauded for outstanding performance in the areas of leadership, inspiration, innovation and social responsibility. A veteran in the logistics industry, Steve is responsible for DHL Global Forwarding's overall business performance and strategy, including the management of more than 4,000 employees, in Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau. Steve was recognized for his leadership of the Chinese division, which has led to the rapid expansion of the network within the region. Steve's efforts to strengthen and encourage strategic economic trade partnerships between China and Europe were instrumental to DHL's expansion of the new Silk Road over the past years, including the most recent announcement of the DHL China-Turkey multimodal rail corridor.
Steve said: "I am honored and privileged to receive IAIR's 'CEO of the Year' award. We are the pioneers in driving Asia-Europe rail and I am proud to be part of DHL's continuous efforts to expand its footprint in Asia and provide innovative routes in multimodal networks out of Asia -- a region of rapid growth and exciting possibilities. This accolade also goes out to fellow DHL team members and is a tribute to their efforts to go above and beyond in their daily work, without whom our accomplishment would have been impossible."
The jury also recognized DHL Global Forwarding Hong Kong for its stellar performance in areas such as sustainability, business results, leadership, green initiatives, strategic development, high quality of service, innovation and education. DHL Global Forwarding Hong Kong was commended for its success in consolidating its market position in Asia, as well as its innovative and sustainable approach and commitment to providing the best freight forwarding services to its customers.
Kelvin Leung, CEO, DHL Global Forwarding Asia Pacific said, "Our team is committed to providing the best service offering to our customers -- both intra-Asia and connecting Asia with the globe. Our commitment in this area puts us in a prime position to capitalize on Asia's rapid growth -- with intra-Asia trade being one of the fastest trade corridors in the world, accounting for 25 percent of Asia's total annual exports by 2014[1]. We are excited, and ready for the opportunities ahead."
Steve added: "We have a dedicated trade lane management team across Asia Pacific covering all major trade corridors globally, integrating DHL's extensive network with local expertise. Our trade lane managers in China alone speak 22 languages and represent 19 nationalities, working hand in hand with global counterparts to bring the best solutions to our customers. Bolstered by economic initiatives promoting trade and integration such as 'Belt and Road' and 'Trans-Pacific Partnership', we are in a strategic position to tap on the growth in the region."
Asia remains a key area of growth for DHL, who has continued to invest in a comprehensive network that includes air, rail, road and sea solutions to offer customers the widest array of options in the market. Recent investments include an integrated road freight network that links five key Asian cities -- Singapore, Penang, Bangkok, Hanoi and Shenzhen, and China–Europe multimodal network expansions to Zhengzhou, Hamburg and Taiwan.
Kelvin added: "The recognition is a strong testament of DHL's continuous efforts to be the Provider, Employer and Investment of Choice. Our team's dedication towards delivering excellence is key to our ability to provide consistent and superior service quality to our customers. DHL is also proud to be the industry leader in sustainable logistics, setting an example through initiatives such as our GoGreen program and environmentally friendly product innovations."
