The volume of traffic in Nanjing’s subway system has reached 400,000 people per day. It is predicted that this number will increase to 1 million after Metro Line 2 starts operating. The number of Digital Media Group (DMG)-operated digital display screens will also increase from 1,180 to 4,800. Compared to the 17-inch in-train display screens in other cities, the 19-inch display screens on Nanjing Metro Line 2 trains will be the largest in the country. In 2010, more passengers will be able to watch innovative programs with increasingly rich content on DMG-operated Metro Line 2.

It is worth mentioning that Nanjing’s subway system is going to have one vertical and two horizontal subway lines after the Metro Line 2 project is completed; this will cover many big communities such as the Main City District, Jiangning New City District, Hexi New City District, Aoti New City District, Xianlin University District and more. Daily passenger flow is expected to reach 2 million approximately 3-5 years after Metro Line 2 starts running; this volume accounts for 2/3 of the total population of the city of Nanjing. By then, passengers will be able to reach nearly everywhere in Nanjing’s new city districts by subway. Compared to the single North-South running Metro Line 1, the East-West running Metro Line 2 is an improvement and will make Nanjing’s metro network more comprehensive. On the other hand, the average daily commute time for passengers on the subway will likewise increase from 20 minutes to 45 minutes. Thus, the cost of commuting by train per thousand of passengers is going to decrease by 30%.

As the highlight of the Metro Line 2 project, DMG will also be installing two 103-inch LCD display screens at the transfer platform. As the largest PDP display screens available on the market, they will provide passengers with impactful visuals as they transfer trains. Furthermore, Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system media display screens will also be introduced on Line 2. These screens are composed of three 42-inch LCD screens and one Guiding Map. Such display screens will be placed on top of the AFCs in every metro station along Metro Line 2. As the first original form of new media of its kind to be launched in China, AFC media display screens will provide passengers purchasing their tickets with information about train arrival times, transfers, safety precautions and weather forecasts, thus making the commuting experience more convenient and pleasant.
