Fossil-Rich Kazakhstan Opens Arms to Secure the Future of Energy

Oil-rich and loaded with abundant resources of fossil fuels, Kazakhstan is ready for international cooperation in the development of sustainable energy. 

Speaking at the conclusion of a 2-day XIth edition of Kazenergy Forum, Kazakhstan Prime Minister Bakytzhan Sagintayev said it is a time when the world has to evolve into accepting new energy model that is sustainable. 

Kazakhstan is ready for international cooperation in development of sustainable energy to find solutions to the energy crisis, Sagintayev said. 

Prime Minister added that International Exhibition EXPO-2017 with a theme of "Future Energy" in Astana has made it possible to attract the world's best projects and technologies in the fields of energy saving, well-balanced use of traditional and alternative energy sources, and will contribute to the future development of the power industry. 

"Kazakhstan Energy Minister Kanat Bozumbayev said the Ministerial Conference on "Meeting the Challenge of sustainable energy", organized by KAZENERGY at the very beginning of the EXPO-2017 in June showed that Kazakhstan has emerged as one of the key players in the global dialogue on the future energy." The ultimate goal of this dialogue is to identify specific steps towards achievement of UN's sustainable development goals. The declaration adopted after the June ministerial meeting, and the resolution of this Forum will be reflected in the Manifest of the EXPO values and principles.  

The two-day forum attracted hundreds of energy industry executives, government officials and representatives of nongovernmental organizations from around the world. Participants included Finland's Energy Minister Kimmo Tiilikainen, Energy Minister of Georgia Ilya Eloshvili, UAE Energy Minister Suhail Mohamed Faraj Al Mazrouei, former President of Iceland Olafur Ragnar Grimsson, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Arkady Dvorkovich, World Petroleum Council President Tor Fjaeran, International Energy Forum's Secretary General  Dr. Sun Xiansheng, Secretary General of International Energy Charter Urban Rusnak and others. 

Tiilikainen surprised the audience by saying that the electricity grid losses in Finland have been reduced to a remarkable number of 3%. KAZENERGY Vice-Chairperson Jambulat Sarsenov said that this is a benchmark Kazakhstan should strive to achieve. 

 In a reassurance to the oil companies, WPC president Tor Fjaeran said fossil fuels will remain the key energy sources in the near seeable future and it will be decades before the energy market shifts to renewable energy. 

Within the framework of the KAZENERGY Forum a series of program sections, scientific-practical conferences, round tables, innovative school, youth forum and women's energy club meetings were also held. 

At the end of the meeting, participants of the KAZENERGY Forum commended the efforts made to organize and hold the International Specialized Exhibition EXPO-2017 in Astana and recognized the importance and the urgency of the topic "Future Energy" for Kazakhstan. The speakers also mentioned the important role of the KAZENERGY Association, headed by the Chairman Timur Kulibayev and its members and partners in organizing such an important dialogue for the energy community. They considered this dialogue to be the real contribution to enhancing the potential of Eurasian countries in the field of rational use of natural resources, exploration and production of hydrocarbons, access to energy resources, energy efficiency and expansion of "clean" energy production.

The XI Eurasian Forum KAZENERGY deliberations were aimed at current issues facing the oil and energy sector.
