Full Tilt Poker Pro Richard Ashby Banks Over $140K in WSOP Event #21
DUBLIN, Ireland, June 17 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Full Tilt Poker pro Richard Ashby has won Event #21 at the 2010 World Series of Poker*, collecting his first WSOP bracelet and more than $140K in prize money.
The London-born player turned pro in 2003 and has never looked back since. Primarily a ring-game player, Ashby is drawn to the thrills of high-stakes games, especially short-handed Pot-Limit Hold 'em. Despite focusing on cash games, he has racked up some impressive results on the live tournament circuit, including eight World Series of Poker cashes.
Event #21 was a $1,500 Seven-Card Stud tournament that attracted a field of 408 players. Ashby went to the final table third in chips and slowly built up his stack. During heads-up play against Christine Pietsch, Ashby took a commanding lead, leaving her extremely short stacked for the remainder of the game.
In the final hand, Pietsch bet out on fourth street with a pair of tens, and then pushed all in after a raise from Ashby. Ashby showed two pair and Pietsch's hand failed to improve, giving Ashby his first bracelet. He is the third British player to take home a bracelet this summer, joining fellow Full Tilt Poker pro Praz Bansi in victory. The $140,467 payday brings his career tournament earnings to over $800,000.
