NASHVILLE, Tenn., September 23, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam and Economic and Community Development Commissioner Bill Hagerty today announced that Copperweld Bimetallics LLC (the Fayetteville, Tenn. subsidiary of Fushi Copperweld Inc.) is one of three recipients of the Governor's Awards for Trade Excellence (GATE). The GATE recognition honors companies that have achieved excellence in engaging in global trade. The winners will be presented their award at the 58th Annual Governor's Conference on Economic and Community Development on Friday, Sept. 23, during the Governor's Luncheon.

"These existing Tennessee businesses are showing Tennessee products and services can be successful in a global economy," Gov. Haslam said. "The GATE Award winners are to be congratulated for exploring new markets and seeing the opportunities available in a global marketplace."

The companies selected for the award represent three categories: Copperweld was selected as the mid-sized company category. Memphis's Mallory Alexander International Logistics LLC won for the large company category, and Paradoxe Corporation in Jackson was chosen for the small company category.

"I congratulate the GATE Award winners for successfully navigating the challenges and opportunities that the global marketplace can bring," Commissioner Hagerty said. "Having spent much of my private sector career working with overseas markets, I have a unique admiration for and understanding of the benefits of global trading and how it can help existing Tennessee companies expand and remain competitive."

Joe Longever, CEO of Fushi Copperweld, was pleased to learn of the company's selection, saying, "We are very proud of our operation in Fayetteville, which has been shipping technologically advanced bimetallic conductor products all over the world for 35 years. As a company, we remain committed to keeping our Tennessee facility globally focused and competitive across many world markets." About 29 percent of Copperweld Bimetallics LLC's annual sales in 2010 were direct export sales. He added, "It is gratifying that the Governor recognizes our efforts to bring the best of Tennessee's innovation and ingenuity to market internationally."

Fushi Copperweld is the world's leading manufacturer of bimetallic wire products, specifically engineered for value and performance, and designed from the start to combine the beneficial characteristics of two different metals.
