BEIJING, Jan. 26 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- The World Health Organization is spreading the word that "giving cigarettes is giving harm". Chinese New Year is a time to express good wishes to others, and gift-giving is part of that tradition. Although some people may still be giving cigarettes to friends and colleagues, that harmful practice is set to change. An ongoing campaign throughout China equates giving cigarettes with giving harm and encourages better health in the year of the Ox. In part, the campaign warns that in giving tobacco "You send your wishes with lung cancer and other respiratory diseases to your friends; You send your respects with heart diseases, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases to your colleagues." The campaign of the China Center for Disease Control and Prevention is endorsed by China's Ministry of Health and WHO, and supported by World Lung Foundation.
