CHINA STAFF magazine names Hewitt '2008 Consulting Firm of the Year for Talent Management' and '2008 Business Process Outsourcing Firm of the Year'

SHANGHAI, China, Dec. 10 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Hewitt Associates, a global human resources consulting and outsourcing company, has been named 2008 Consulting Firm of the Year for Talent Management and 2008 Business Process Outsourcing Firm of the Year by CHINA STAFF (CCH) magazine.

The awards were accepted by Beecher Ashley-Brown, senior consultant of Hewitt Greater China, at a ceremony in Shanghai in November.

Commenting on the awards, Ashley-Brown said: "At Hewitt, one of our core values, which we hold with a great deal of passion and conviction, is putting the client first and, through the work we do, making a real difference to their businesses and their people. For us, this is deeply meaningful. So while we have been honored by the judging panel and CCH for the work we have done, it is really our honor to work alongside so many great clients."

Hewitt's outsourcing and consulting teams submitted client case studies of their work over the last year. All entries were judged by an independent judging panel on a "blind" basis, with judges looking for evidence of a client-centric focus, consistency in service, and innovative solutions and thinking.

Even more importantly, the judges were looking to measure meaningful impact to the business, demonstrating solid results. Community outreach and corporate social responsibility also played a key factor in identifying recipients of this year's awards.

Hewitt demonstrated its impact to the business by helping an organization that faced a strategic HR problem of being able to grow current and future leaders in China. Hewitt partnered with the client to design and deploy a comprehensive leadership assessment and development strategy to meet the business needs. By the end of the project, the business had developed a clear leadership strategy to confidently develop a robust leadership talent pool from within to meet the business expansion objectives and become agents of change in the company's transformation.

All of the future leaders in the organization embraced the process, with one volunteering the following comment: "I used to think that leaders are different from me. They have some special powers that make them skilled at their job and I can never attain those skills. I used to think of leaders as a different species almost. Now, having worked closely with leaders over a year, I know that they are just like me. I am a leader in my own right and will someday take on a similar role like them. I feel a stronger connection with the company, understand where we are headed as a business, and feel like the opportunities in front of me are endless. I feel I am ready."

Commenting on why the judges selected Hewitt for the awards, CHINA STAFF said: "Hewitt clearly stood out as a firm offering solutions based on a clear understanding of customer needs and correlating them not only to HR, but to the customer's business results. When going through the judging process, we also looked for clearly demonstrated innovation in HR practices and evidence of a significant contribution to development of the broader HR community in China."

Jenny Li, managing director of Hewitt Greater China, was delighted with the results and commented: "These awards are a real confirmation that we are succeeding with our efforts to create a consistently unique client experience and an affirmation that we are truly fulfilling our mission -- Making China a Better Place to Work. However, this is not an easy task especially in a downturn, but we have been able to successfully help clients across the full spectrum of HR solutions. For example, our business performance improvement (BPI) solutions help companies keep their business lean and improve employee productivity -- a critical strategy in a slowing economy.

"We also would like to recognize and congratulate our clients, the Guangzhou Daily and Spansion, for their great achievements in being named as, respectively, the Best HR Strategy for Business Growth and the Best Practice in Leadership Development."

The Guangzhou Daily has partnered with Hewitt to develop a robust HR infrastructure and implement sophisticated people systems to foster and enable their growing business in China.

Spansion has placed a priority in building the capabilities of their people. They continue to be a top performer in all areas of human capital, and the company was also named as Hewitt's Best Employer in China 2007 and Best Employer in Asia 2007.

This is the 11th time that Hewitt has been acknowledged by CHINA STAFF, having previously been awarded the China HR Consulting Firm of the Year for four consecutive years, the China Compensation and Benefits Firm of the Year in 2004, the China Consulting Firm of the Year for Change Management in 2005, and most recently the Consulting Firm of the Year for Performance and Reward Management in 2006.

About the CHINA STAFF Awards

CHINA STAFF is a human resources magazine published by CCH Asia Pte Ltd-a member of the Wolters Kluwer group, which is the only bilingual journal solely dedicated to human resources management in the PRC and Hong Kong markets. The CHINA STAFF Awards were first conceptualized and developed to raise awareness of the importance of the HR function and how it makes a vital difference to a company's business results. They recognize the individuals and organizations that have strategically leveraged HR policies and practices to meet the growth objectives of their business, and have been awarded through extensive consultation with CHINA STAFF readers and HR professionals in the region.

The organizing committee has taken all possible measures to ensure maximum accuracy, objectivity, and independence in the judging. This year's award has 11 different categories to recognize both HR practitioners and HR service providers. Entries are judged by a panel comprised of senior HR practitioners, academics, and business leaders acting in a voluntary capacity.

The magazine's editorial team was responsible for reviewing all the nominations received and blinding them prior to sending to the judging panel so as to ensure an objective selection process. Two to three candidates were short-listed in each category by a panel of leading HR specialists before the winners were selected.
