The Institute Hosts China Update in Response to Demand for Information on Mainland China Regulatory Regime

HONG KONG, Jan. 9 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- The Hong Kong Institute of Chartered Secretaries (HKICS) hosted the China Corporate and Regulatory Update (CCRU) conference yesterday (8 January 2009) at HKUST Business School Central. The event was supported by both PRC and Hong Kong's regulators with representatives from the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC), Shenzhen Stock Exchange (SSE), Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx) and Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) speaking at the event.

CCRU was initiated as a result of the strong demand by Hong Kong professionals and the business community to obtain first hand information on the latest developments, changes and trends in related laws and practices in Mainland China.

Topics covered included:

-- Latest update on the PRC Listing Laws and Regulations

-- The role of independent non-executive directors

-- The consultation conclusions of the HKEx Combined Consultations

-- Co-operation between the PRC and Hong Kong on the regulation of the

capital market

"Many Hong Kong based companies have business operations on the Mainland and HKICS members need a forum to help keep them up to date with Chinese laws and business practices in the same way as we update our members on Hong Kong regulations through our Annual Corporate and Regulatory Update (ACRU)," said Mrs. Natalia Seng, President of HKICS and Chairman of Professional Development Committee, "We are delighted to have representatives from the CSRC, SSE, HKEx and SFC to share their expertise with our members."

"CCRU provides a unique chance for PRC's regulators, Hong Kong regulators and Hong Kong market practitioners to exchange information and ideas directly. Such first hand information from the key regulators on the latest developments and changes in corporate related laws and practices is extremely useful to our members and the business community," Mrs. Seng continued.

CCRU forms part of the Institute's Enhanced Continuing Professional Development Programme which is endorsed by HKEx. HKICS is also a recognised institution by SFC to provide continuous professional training.
