Harbour City Presents the "Sake Festival"

HONG KONG, May 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- As an iconic element of Japan, sake tasting introduces a whole new level of art and craft to the fermented rice drink. Harbour City, the largest shopping mall in Hong Kong, introduces the "Sake Festival" from May 1st through the 17th, 2015. The Ocean Terminal Forecourt of Harbour City will be transformed into "Sake Street", where an array of activities will be staged to introduce the culture of sake to the public.

"Sake Street" Will Feature Over 100 Sake Barrels on Display  

Over 100 sake barrels will represent the visual theme of "Sake Street" at Harbour City. The three meter barrels are provided by different Japanese breweries and represent an important part of the process. There will be 18 Japanese booths offering over 100 types of sake from 20 different counties of Japan at "Sake Street" , including award-winning and limited edition sake such as "Bon Nihon no Tsubasa" from Fukui & "Chikurin Taoyaka Junmai Daiginjyo" from Okayama. With an onsite donation of $120 HKD^, customers can redeem a set of 10 sake tasting tokens to enjoy their favourite types of sake, and receive a limited edition Harbour City "Masu" (a special wooden-made vessel for tasting sake). Masu quantities are limited and will be redeemed on a first-come-first-served basis.

Redemption Method of "Sake Tasting Token": With an onsite donation of HK$120^, customers can redeem a set of 10 sake tasting tokens to enjoy their favorite types of sake and have chance to receive a Harbour City Limited Edition "Masu" (a special wooden-made vessel for tasting sake). Masu quantities are extremely limited and will be redeemed on a first-come-first-served basis.

Sake Tasting Class -- Pairing Sake with Fruit

The geographical location, climate, source of rice, water, enzyme, and production process are the unique factors that give sake its distinct flavours. Harbour City has specially invited one of the first Japanese sake sommeliers in Hong Kong, Mr. Micky Chan, to host sake tasting classes during the event period. The workshop will introduce the history of sake, the sake brewing process, as well as the unique tastes and characteristics of four categories of sake.  Moreover, aside from oysters and Japanese cuisine, sake can paired with many different foods. In the sake tasting classes at Harbour city, Mr Micky Chan will firstly pair award-winning and selected types of sake with different fruits for tasting by the participants.

BATI--HOLIC from Kyoto Will Present a Contemporary Taiko Drum Performance

To enhance the festive spirit, Harbour City has invited popular cultural performance group, BATI--HOLIC to perform a contemporary taiko drum set fused with singing, dancing and the Japanese flute for their first ever Hong Kong showing. BATI--HOLIC was formed in 2004 in Kyoto and is well-known for their contemporary taiko drum performance. They routinely perform over 100 concerts in Japan and around the world every year.
