SHANGHAI, May 26 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Today more than 1,000 students from Zhangjiang Center Primary School celebrated the upcoming Children’s day with the opening of the “Honeywell Classroom”, which will now be a permanent fixture at the school. This gift from Honeywell offers students the opportunity to expand their science and technology knowledge by participating in extracurricular technology activities.

Since the end of 2008, Honeywell Specialty Materials has been cooperating with Zhangjiang Center Primary School by engaging in community projects that are inspiring students to pursue further studies in math and science. Honeywell has hosted several student delegates at the Honeywell Zhangjiang campus where Honeywell’s technology volunteers introduce the students to the latest Honeywell technology through lectures and guide the students through special hands-on experiments in addition to giving the students a tour of the laboratories to learn what scientists do every day. After the Honeywell tour students return to school with a great enthusiasm for learning more about Science.
Jianhua Xu, principal of Zhangjiang Center Primary School, said, “Enthusiasm is what motivates the students. The new Honeywell Classroom brings the resources of a high-tech company into our school and helps the students realize the applicability of science in every day life as well as find passion and fun in science. Our hope is that this classroom will be a successful example of using community resources to promote science education.”

As part of the commitment to the Honeywell Classroom, Honeywell’s technology volunteers will make regular visits to the school to give technology lectures and host activities. Building on their existing activities, both sides plan to explore and initiate even more extracurricular technology activities designed to encourage students’ science and technology interest and provide hands-on learning.
Zhangjiang Center Primary School has a long history spanning at least a century and currently enrolls more than 1,000 students. For many years, the school has placed importance on experience-based learning and has supported students to pro-actively pursue opportunities that will contribute and enhance their quest to explore and discover their creative and innovative abilities.
