Honeywell joins Wuhan Mayor's International Advisory Council

WUHAN, China, Nov. 18 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Honeywell (NYSE: HON) has been invited to be an international advisor to the Municipal Government of Wuhan as it builds on its aggressive industrialization and urbanization program. Shane Tedjarati, President and CEO of Honeywell China and India, will participate at the 6th meeting of the Wuhan Mayor's International Advisory Council (WMIAC), a high-level platform from which Honeywell can offer counsel and extend opportunities of cooperation to assist Wuhan and the Hubei province.

The 6th WMIAC meeting with its theme, "Resource-Saving and Environment-Friendly - A New Development Path for Wuhan's Industrialization and Urbanization," started today and ends on November 20, 2009 in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei province. The province, located in Central China, has built up a comprehensive industrial portfolio that includes automobile, iron and steel, machinery and electronics, power generation, textiles and foodstuffs.

"Honeywell is honored to be member of the Wuhan Mayor's International Advisory Council," said Shane Tedjarati, President and CEO of Honeywell China and India. "We are looking forward to sharing our thoughts with the governments of Wuhan and the Hubei province on how to meet the challenges of urbanization and industrialization while achieving a long-term sustainable economy. Some of the challenges that come hand in hand with rapid development include energy shortage and the potential risks of environmental damage. Our leading technologies and experiences all over the world position Honeywell to help the Wuhan government solve such challenges. We are keen to establish R&D cooperation and provide tailored solutions to Wuhan."

At the WMIAC meeting, Honeywell will present ways in which to drive energy saving for energy-intensive industries such as energy optimizations and retrofitting initiatives, and how to accelerate the development of "green" and less energy-intensive industries. Honeywell's advanced energy efficiency solutions can also be extended to buildings and homes.

Honeywell is the global leader in energy efficiency and environmental protection. About 50 percent of Honeywell's products can improve energy efficiency. Worldwide, Honeywell has completed more than 5,000 energy efficiency projects that saved US$3 billion in energy and operating costs globally. If the U.S. and Europe were to aggressively use existing Honeywell technologies, they could reduce the current level of energy consumption by between 15 and 20 percent. Over the years Honeywell has had a number of successful collaborations in these areas in China and has signed strategic MOUs with a number of provincial governments and local enterprises on energy conservation and environmental protection.
