The World's Leading Pharmaceutical Ingredients Exhibition is Now in ASEAN

JAKARTA, Indonesia, April 18, 2012 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- The latest addition to the CPhI (Convention on Pharmaceutical Ingredients) portfolio is ready to open its doors for business ready on May 10 to 12 at the Jakarta International Expo. Branded as CPhI South East Asia, the show aims to cover not only Indonesia but the entire Southeast Asian region. Renowned among the pharma professionals around the world as the must-attend business networking event, CPhI selected Indonesia to be the home of this business event.

With a population of approximately 650 million, Southeast Asia is considered high-growth market for the pharmaceutical industry. Indonesia alone accounts for almost 37% of the total pharmaceutical market value. Along with this big market share, it is also followed with high dependency on imports of raw materials or ingredients to keep production going. Over 95% of all pharma ingredients in Indonesia are imported. Main import origins are India, China and Europe. This condition presents opportunity as much as challenge for not only Indonesia but for most of the emerging markets in ASEAN.

M Gandhi, Managing Director ASEAN Business UBM Asia said, "Indonesia is the ideal location for the introduction of a new CPhI event. The South East Asia region is an exceptional example of a 'pharmerging' market. With the market value of pharma projected to reach USD4.9 billion this year, we understand that there are still challenges for the industry in obtaining sustainable, reliable and quality ingredients for their products. We feel it is timely for CPhI to extend an edition to this region, allowing sourcing closer to home."

Kendrariadi Suhanda, Chairman of Pharma Materials Management Club - PMMC and Vice Secretary General of Indonesia Pharmaceutical Association said, "Over the years, members of GP Farmasi and PMMC have been traveling to CPhI events around the world to source for ingredients, meet suppliers and new contacts. We appreciate the initiative to bring CPhI to Indonesia. In the ASEAN region, Indonesia is one of the two nations (with Vietnam) that is expecting a double digit growth in the pharma market with a 3.7 (US$ Bn) in 2010 and 6.1 (US$ Bn) in 2014. The local industry will certainly be benefited by the program as it will bring the most prominent players in the industry at our door step."

Recognizing the prospective development of the pharmaceutical industry in Southeast Asia, CPhI Southeast Asia will exhibit its materials to ASEAN communities. Pharmaceutical growth markets will be the largest contributor to global growth in the next five years and CPhI South East Asia is a part of the contributions that will provide a straightforward access for businesses to key decision makers and buyers from Indonesia and other pharma markets in the region.

"This event offers visitors a unique opportunity to access a potential market that is aligning itself for explosive growth. At this point, we have more than 200 exhibitors from 24 countries, CPhI South East Asia promises more than 4,600 sqm sourcing area and plenty of business networking opportunities. The pharmaceutical market is growing across the region and the increased demand for pharma raw materials offers great potential for international suppliers to expand their footprint," Gandhi added.

UBM (United Business Media) expands its world's leading pharmaceutical ingredient exhibition to Indonesia with a goal to cover the entire ASEAN region. The new expended exhibition is branded CPhI South East Asia and will have its debut for business on 10 - 12 May 2012 at the Jakarta International Expo, Kemayoran. The exhibition primarily focuses on pharmaceutical ingredients, although there will be a few exhibits on the packaging area.  For show information, pre-registration and update, please visit www.cphi-sea.com.
