The first triple-certified green building in China paves the way toward a more sustainable future; demonstrates company's commitment to China market
SHANGHAI, June 22, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Johnson Controls, a global leader in intelligent buildings, efficient energy solutions and integrated infrastructure, today announced the completion and launch of its Asia-Pacific headquarters. The headquarters sets a new standard for green and smart buildings, being the first in China to receive several top global energy efficiency awards including: IFC-World Bank Group's EDGE (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) Certification, U.S. Green Building Council's LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum Certification, and the China Green Building Design Label Three Star Certification.
Situated between the Hongqiao Transportation Hub and Suzhou River in Shanghai's Chang'ning district, the 44,300-square meter building is located in heart of the Linkong Economic Zone. The Zone acts as a portal to the Yangtze River Delta's key transportation arteries, and already features the presence of several leading multinational companies. Its proximity underscores the company's commitment to the China and wider Asia-Pacific markets.
"The Asia-Pacific region, particularly China, is Johnson Controls' most important growth market, and we are confident that the launch of our Asia-Pacific headquarters will enable us to better facilitate China's rapid development," said Alex Molinaroli, chairman and CEO. "Our partnerships and leading technologies, along with our visionary and intelligent solutions, will enable us to advance sustainable development."
Creating a new model of building energy efficiency
The headquarters showcases a full range of smart building solutions. Its sustainable design – which includes a Central Plant, renewable energy and intelligent lighting, the Metasys® Building Automation System, and other advanced technologies – is expected to generate 44 percent savings in overall energy consumption compared to the local market standard. Additionally, the building is expected to reduce water usage by 42 percent via its grey water recycling and storm water recapture facilities, and to reduce embodied energy in materials by 21 percent through the use of FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified wood-based building materials and the sourcing of locally supplied products. The headquarters is also equipped with hybrid and electric vehicle charging stations which enable employees to commute with a smaller carbon footprint.
Johnson Controls' commitment to the Chinese market
The Johnson Controls' Asia-Pacific headquarters highlights the company's commitment to the China market. For the first time, Johnson Controls previously dispersed Asia-Pacific business and operational units will be combined under one roof, boosting intra-company collaboration and fostering a high-performance corporate culture.
The headquarters building will also feature a Customer Showcase exhibition room, a world-class customer experience platform which will offer visitors to the building a first-hand look at the company's innovative technologies with highly customizable product demonstrations. Johnson Controls is also committed to further expanding its operations in China through strategic partnerships that are supportive of China's market and developmental priorities.
Sustainable development in Asia
The opening of the Headquarters Asia Pacific demonstrates the ways in which Johnson Controls continues to accelerate sustainable development in Asia. Johnson Controls currently provides solutions and technologies to 90 percent of the world's tallest buildings, and has contributed to the construction of many iconic landmarks in Asia: Shanghai Tower, Shanghai World Financial Center, Hong Kong International Finance Center (II), Taipei 101 and the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur. In the process, Johnson Controls has made invaluable contributions to advancing energy efficiency and sustainability throughout the Asia Pacific region.
In the area of energy storage, Johnson Controls works closely with vehicle manufacturers to facilitate the continued development of fuel economy by providing innovative and high-efficiency energy solutions, such as its start-stop car battery system. Johnson Controls is also committed to automotive closed-loop recycling systems to ensure that batteries are properly disposed of while simultaneously optimizing resource efficiency. Johnson Controls is actively carrying out this practice in China to promote environmental advocacy and act as a responsible corporate citizen.
