Focusing on the Future of Capitalism

HONG KONG, Sept. 30 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- London Business School's Hong Kong Alumni Club participates in the sixth Worldwide Alumni Celebration today (30 September) by hosting a dinner party for its 300-strong alumni community in Hong Kong.  It is one of 90 events taking place across 54 countries and regions to commemorate the school's Worldwide Alumni Celebration.

The global event offers alumni an opportunity to celebrate their lifelong connections to the school and support its strong alumni networks. Each alumni club staged its own special event in their respective countries on 23 September. However, due to a public holiday, the Hong Kong Alumni Club will host its celebrations today.

The Hong Kong Alumni Club is proud to be part of the worldwide celebrations, which has special significance this year as London Business School has been ranked number one for its MBA programme by Financial Times. The Hong Kong Alumni Club is also delighted to have David Webb, a leading corporate governance advocate, as the guest speaker who will be sharing his views on the topic of "Hong Kong 2030 -- Short-dated Capitalism". Mr Webb aims to arouse lively discussions on Hong Kong's capitalist system and the city's status as a financial centre.

London Business School's long-standing partners the Columbia Business School and the University of Hong Kong will also share in the celebrations.

Professor Sir Andrew Likierman, Dean of London Business School, in his message to the alumni community, said, "With celebrations taking place in over 90 cities, London Business School has truly become a global community. It has been a great year for the School with recognition from the Financial Times as the number one full-time MBA, as well as a substantial increase in students."

With over 300 alumni members, the Hong Kong Alumni Club of London Business School is one of the most prominent alumni clubs worldwide with the majority of the alumni in the finance and banking sectors. Dr Augustine Chow, President of the Hong Kong Alumni Club comments, "London Business School's Alumni Club has a strong global network which is not only a valuable asset to the members but strengthens the school's values and global community."

Currently, London Business School has 30,000 alumni in 130 countries and regions. The network continues to grow and according to school records, student numbers have increased by 35-40% over the past 4 years. Since the Worldwide Alumni Celebration was introduced five years ago it has grown gradually, with 2010's offerings set to be more diverse and wide-spread than ever before.

In the UK, the London Alumni Club hosted a discussion on the future of the world economy. Leading faculty members Professors Andrew Scott and Linda Yueh were joined by Chief Economist, Citigroup Willem Buiter and Special Advisor, Nomura Sadeq Sayeed to examine the future of the global economy.

Other notable events are set to take place in places such as Moscow, Cairo, Dubai, Hamburg, Shanghai, Sydney, Zurich, New York and Toronto.
