McDonald’s China Family Commits Funds and Resources to Sichuan Region Earthquake Relief Efforts -- Includes Food Donations, Other On-The-Ground Initiatives
SHANGHAI, China, May 16 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- McDonald’s China detailed plans to donate one million RMB on behalf of the McDonald’s China family to the Sichuan region earthquake relief efforts.

In addition, Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of China, a partnership with McDonald’s China and the Soong Ching Ling Foundation (SCLF) have mutually agreed to donate 500,000 RMB to the fund.
“First and foremost, our deepest sympathy and concern is with the victims and their families,” said Jeff Schwartz, McDonald’s China CEO. “Our hearts go out to all who have been affected, we grieve with them. We know that all of us will pull together to give our best efforts to help the relief effort.”
McDonald’s China is committed to helping the Sichuan and Chongqing region recover and working with our system resources, adopted a multi-tiered approach to activate its relief efforts. “We are committed to looking at other ways to provide ongoing assistance in the immediate future,” Schwartz said.
McDonald’s China is also helping those who are involved with rescue and recovery, promoting blood drive efforts in our restaurants and assisting the government wherever they need us.
Beyond the financial donations from McDonald’s China and RMHC China, a partnership with Soong Ching Ling Foundation (SCLF), several McDonald’s China regions are volunteering in relief efforts.
Starting tomorrow in more than 900 restaurants, McDonald’s China will support the kind blood donors with a free orange juice and hamburger to replenish their nutrients, upon their presentation of a blood donation certificate.
In addition, in-store communications will be put up as soon as possible to advise our customers how to support the cause.
McDonald’s China has 28 restaurants in the Sichuan and Chongqing regions. No employees were seriously hurt and all have been accounted for after the earthquake. All but two of the 28 restaurants have reopened.
In the Sichuan region, McDonald’s restaurants have supplied the food and beverages to hospital in Deyang city. We also plan to set up several food and beverage stations nearby some of the blood donation centers, in order to provide free McDonald’s food and beverages to blood donors and hospital staff.
